Young @ Heart

June 16, 2008 |

Technically, the documentary Young @ Heart, which follows a group of oldies-but-goodies as they cover some of rock music’s most iconic songs, isn’t at all about knitting. Their poster however is the pinnacle of modern-day, knitted punk-rockness! The irony of course being that Fox Searchlight was assumably trying to juxtapose the traditional “call of the youth” (rock n’ roll) with a stereotypical medium of the elderly (knitting) when in reality, the needle arts are “big with the kids” more now, than ever (insert gratuitous knitted guitar shot from my 1st book, to illustrate the point). There’s something poetic about the way that generational gaps are being filled by creative expression. It makes this crafty gal, very happy.
