Someone once asked me, when I wrote a pattern for worsted-weight socks, why I would do such a thing because they wouldn’t really fit inside shoes.
Well, first of all, depends on the shoe, but who says we always wear our socks with shoes, right?
I have this pair of bulky knee socks (used to be on About but you can still access via the Internet Archive) I reserve for wearing to bed on the coldest nights. They’re a great first sock because they go so fast, and if you know someone who is always cold they’re a perfect gift, too.
Another great looking pattern I recently came across is the Happiness pattern from Brome Fields. These bulky tube socks knit up in four or five hours, and they include a couple of stripes for extra cuteness. The pattern runs $2.99 and should fit a lot of different feet because there’s no heel.
Have you ever knit socks as a gift for someone? I’d love to hear about it!
