Knitting Retreats…

Have you ever gone to one? A Knitting Retreat? Personally, I never have, being of the farm-girl variety, it would be awfully difficult to get away, but I hear they’re great!

Here’s one I just saw listed in the Charleston Daily Mail, in what I believe to be West Virginia:

Apparantly there is a fun little show being planned. Yes, I really did know about it, but since I seem to live in a coccoon most of the time it doesn’t occur to me to tell everyone about it. I can’t go. I’m a farmer in my real life (blogging being my fantasy life) and my critters do appreciate the daily feed, but there’s no reason why you can’t go!

Stitches South is April 23-26 in Atlanta, Georgia (although from the white stuff falling from the sky at this very moment, I’m thinking that Georgia might not be a bad place to be. Probably not snowing there!).

Fiber Fests, Knitting Nest and Spinning Wheels

Well, I survived the Northern Michigan Lamb and Wool Festival. It was exhilarating. It was exhausting. It was really really hard on my checkbook.

And I signed up to go to another one. Am I crazy?

Don’t answer that!

I did manage to score quite a bit of knitting time as well as spinning time. What handy little tool did I choose to hold my knitting, yarn and accessories while I was knitting? The Knitter’s Nest by Circular Solutions. Very heavy duty canvas, with 4 divided pockets. Also trimmed in a very cool purple! And… this is the grabber… it has a handle! People! Seriously! A Handle! I could pick it up and deposit it into my festival tote with no problems. I could pick it up and take it out of my festival tote with no problems. Very very portable, but.. if it’s not quite portable enough for you…..

Ta..dah…..Circular Solution’s Port A Pocket. Same durable canvas, same ultra cool purple trim, and this one has a velcro attached strap to hang from a belt, belt loop or wrist, it’s also big enough for a ball of yarn and has pockets on the outside for your ‘ccessories.

Too cool!

Now I know people knit while riding, walking, and waiting, but I wanna hear from someone who knits while they are on the treadmill, because that one, well, that one didn’t really end all that well!

On the WIP front, Sunrise Circle is done, well the knitting is done anyway, just have to block it, and sew it together. My current project is Jane Thornley’s Feather and Fan KAL in the Mossy Roving’s variety. I love it!

Gotta go knit…..

Northern Michigan Lamb and Wool Festival, this weekend at the Fairgrounds in West Branch, MI.

I can personally guarantee a fun time will be had by all. Free parking. Free admission. Food on the grounds. And lots and lots of yarns and fibers to pet and drool over, as well as needles, books and patterns, and other accessories.

You don’t want to miss it, I know I won’t. I’ll be in the office (it’s safer for my credit card that out on the floor), stop by and say “Hey!”.

Alert! Alert! Mark your calendars, hitch up the horses, and head on out for the Northern Michigan Lamb and Wool Festival the 26th – 28th of September. Up here in beautiful Northern Michigan we are all joining again on the Ogemaw County fairgrounds.
The vendor booths are SOLD OUT so you know there will be new yarns and patterns, tools and toys jam packed into the buildings. Free parking and free admission, all you have to do is show up!
There will be spinning, knitting, felting, weaving, crochetting, dyeing classes (be sure to sign up for these early, they sell out quickly).
Do you want to learn to shear sheep? Come to the sheep shearing school and then join us for the sheep and pasture seminars and tours.

I have to tell you what happened to me last year. I was nonchalently wandering up and down isles, occasionally tripping over my jaw and slipping on my own drool when I came across a novelty yarn that “spoke” to me. (it said, “you must have me”, as it jumped into my arms. I don’t like novelty yarn, but still it persisted, almost attacking me viciously until I finally got out my charge card. I had no idea what to do with this stuff that already owned me. So, that night I fired up my trusty internet and searched for The Perfect Pattern! And this is what I came up with. From Jimmy Beans Wool, the Venus Openwork Diamond Cardigan. You have to pet, er I mean, see this yarn, it’s just awesome! And maybe I’ll have my sweater done and wearing it!
