Adorable Little Girls Sweater

Isn’t this adorable? I’m actually going to make this one, not just dream about it. Even have a recipient in mind!

The pattern is from Caron International, and free, here: http://www.caron.com/projects/ss/ss41_cable_toddler_po.html and is knit in Simply Soft yarn from Caron. The colors are yummy. Solids, variagateds, heathers, oh my! And I’ve used this yarn before, it really is so soft, just a pleasure to knit with.

That’s twitter shorthand for: You need 1 ball of the yarn in each of 2 colors, double pointed needles in US sizes 0 and 1 (or to get a gauge of 9 stitches per inch on the larger needles in 2 color Stockinette sitch). Fiddlesticks Flair Vest

I really like this vest, it would be pretty layered over jeans, just the ticket for weather that likes to change on it’s own whim. Maybe it’s just that it’s green, I don’t know, but it sure is pretty. Actually I went over to the Fiddlesticks Knitting site to see if there were any other colors, and there are. LOTS! I kind of like the Pink Shell, but I’m not really a pink kind of girl, except for when I am, so I might have to stick with green.

Up here, it’s still cold. Up here, it’s still snowy. Up here, Spring hides until the very last minute, usually around mid to end of April. So, when, this time of year, I see a pattern for something like this it makes me feel like we’re not quite alone in this Northern climate. And when the pattern is free, that’s just icing on the cake. Or a log on the woodstove, or something like that.

This Tank Gets It!

I know what you’re going to say. “There’s no way I would look like that in that tank top”! Good for you! It took me a LONG time to get to the point of remembering that.

I’m not tall and willowy with legs up to my neck and a 20″ waist. I’m short and squatty, but this could work.

And the colors, and sparkles! Don’t you just love sparkles? Noone does sparkles better than Tilli Thomas and this pattern is knitted in Tilli Thomas “Disco Lights” yarn.

Free Pattern – Headband/Earwarmers

Up here in the frozen North (it’s been snowing now for about 4 months, and there’s not really an end in sight, but we’re used to that, we revel in it, we can take it, bring it on and all that), we live in “layers”. There are some days when there’s not been an ear warmer/headband ever knitted that will take on -40F. And then the days get warmer (“warm” is relative, when it’s -40 one week, the next week +20 is “warm”), a headband/ear warmer is just the ticket!

Knitting Daily Series 400

This might be Knitting Daily’s best season yet.

In show #401 the Expert Knitting Daily Squad shows you that you can learn and practice new techniques easily and fearlessly on baby items.

Eunny shows us how to “unknit” or tink and reassures saying “It’s only yarn!” And in their “Fearless Knitting” segment they cover from the top down cardigans and pullovers and diagonal knitting.

Show #402 shows how to take simple knits and make them special with techniques such as embroidery and covering buttons. Shay is on location discussion “Fashion Forward” knitting using classic and timeless patterns, and Lily Chin discusses reversible cables.

Show #403 is entitled Knit and Purl Magic. This show blows out the stops with Eunny demonstrating differences betweeen Continental and English knitting (or picking and throwing). She also shows how different combinations of these two different stitches (knit and purl) are used to create the beautiful textures in cables, ribbings and basketweave stitches. The “Fearless Knitting” segment discusses garter stitch in the round and mitering corners.
