The yarn craft show “Knit and Crochet Now!” is getting a new host. Deborah Norville, television personality, face of a yarn line with Premier Yarns and all around crafty lady will be taking the helm of the show for its next season, according to a post on the show’s Facebook page.
Welcome, Deborah Norville
We are excited to announce that Deborah Norville will be joining us as the new host of Knit and Crochet Now! Deborah is a widely acclaimed author, television anchor and journalist whose career has spanned almost 3 decades, and is a lifelong knitter and crocheter.
Though Norville is known more as a crocheter, the show’s format will stay the same, with an even emphasis on knitting and crochet.
Brett Bara, who most recently hosted the show, said on the page “It’s been such a wonderful experience being part of the show for the past eight years (wow — time flies!), but the time has come for me to focus on new things,” noting that she will still be heavily involved in the craft world through her Brooklyn Craft Company.
No word on whether the regular lineup of guests will remain the same.
Do you watch “Knit and Crochet Now!”? What do you think of the new pick?

I watch knit and crochet now on a regular basis. I am glad they are getting a new face on the show as Brett could be annoying at times. I like Debra Norville in other things she has been a part of, so I imagine she will be a good host.

I like Debora Norville, but I will miss Brett. She explained things well, asked good questions, and did not insert irrelevant chatter (I want to hear information about the project, as time is limited) as some hosts tend to do. Brett was also good at demonstrating techniques when she did afghan and scarf of the week. I also hope they don’t change all of the current guests they have on, because they are good at demonstrating the projects also.
Debbie Yerga says
Knit and Crochet is a great program. Sometimes change is good and Deborah seems like a great pick for a new host. And it might be fun to see other new things such as celebrity guests like Vanna White, Vicki Howell, and others come on the program and showcase their skills. I like Maggie Pace, too; I’d like to see her again. I enjoy scarf of the week….I hope that segment continues.
Good Luck to Brett on her new endeavors.

I’m really looking forward to the change in the show. I hope they improve on the filming though. The product is briefly shown at the beginning of a segment, the camera hones in on a specific instruction at the beginning but thereafter more so films the hostess or guest talking and hardly shows the product up close for the balance of the segment, as well as never showing the completed item as that featured project ends, only demo bits. This is an instructional show and should have maximum visual. It would also be helpful if they did a quick viewing of the 3 projects demonstrated as the show wraps up.

Sorry to see Bret go. Don’t care for Deborah Norville–never have, unfortunately. Say goodbye to a faithful watcher. Sorry. Hopefully past seasons will be available on you tube.
Maryann says
Love the show. I heard that Brett is married now and mother of twins. Good Luck to her. I still love the show and will continue to watch.
Judy says
I agree with Debbie — Brett focused on the project and explained things well. Now it’s a faster paced show with more camera focus on the host and not the projects at all. And when they do show a knitting process, they go way too fast. There is little air time as-is and at least Brett kept the attention on the project at the right pace for everyone. I’m done watching.
Miriam Dix says
I really like the show with Deborah Norville. Where can I get the patterns for the items demonstrated? I especially liked the knit cardigan on show 718. Keep up the good work!
Teresa says
Deborah Norville has always been a good host wherever she is. She is full of good energy and her cheerful personality brings a happy sparkle to the show. Looking forward to learning some more creations. Wishing all the best to Brett and liked her too. 🙂

Sooo sad you just lost another viewer.

You can!t please all the people all the time! I will say I always tap the show since I work full time. I enjoyed Brett but I!m sure after 8 years you would want to expand your horizons. I still love the show with the updated set, program sections, and Deborah does a wonderful job. I wouldn’t worry about loosing a few watchers, you!ll pick up others that love the changes! Keep up the beautiful patterns!
Ligeia Browning says
Regardless of the Host (I like them both!), this show is AWESOME! i get to learn all these amazing techniques, and it’s a great lifelong gift! Thank you guys at ‘KNIT & CROCHET NOW!’ You have a GREAT Show!, and thanks PBS as well.
Judy Johnston says
I’m sorry to see Brett Bara leave and sorry to see Debra Norville arrive. I stopped watching the Today show when she manuevered Jane Pauley out of her job, and now it seems she has done the same with Brett. Too bad. I can no longer watch the show
Grace Donovan says
I thought maybe Deborah was a temporary replacement and come to find out that she’s not. After a few weeks, she annoys me. Too much chit chat. I’m a beginner in crocheting and immediate in knitting, and I really loved watching Brett. I’m sad to know she will no longer host. Despite the host change, I honestly don’t like the direction the show has gone. I’ve since turned off my DVR settings for this show. At least I’m on Pinterest in case I notice a pattern pinned on there when I need ideas. YouTube will have to do for videos for now.
Ligeia Browning says
This is such an AWESOME show, that is renewing not ONLY a wonderful skill, but an ART as well….so why all the petty comments about the Hosts? Is that really necessary?! Enjoy the Skills and the Art, instead….that’s a LEGACY!

So glad to find Knit and Crochet now since we moved from one state to another. I miss Brett but have always liked Deborah Norville. I used to watch Knitting Daily but since Euny Jang left, no more. Vicki Howell does not make a good host (Skyppe?; really?) with too much chit chat. So glad to see the format for Knit and Crochet Now with focus on an even balance between knitting and crochet is great. Just keep the camera and the in person conversation on the project and the show will last for a very long time.
Michele says
Miss Brett, watching less. Will probably stop watching.

i just about cannot watch anymore. The show is about knitting and crocheting, not about Deborah. There is no need for constant interruptions, interjections and comments. She takes the focus away from the teacher/learner onto herself. So much of the precious air time is used up by her needless comments. Reminds me of the first host!
Kimberly Duncan says
I understand Brett moving on & I wish her all the best. I do hope she’ll visit a lot. But I don’t like the new format of the show. It’s too much about Debbie & not enough about knitting and crocheting. Please focus on what we are watching the show for. I do miss Afghan/scarf of the week ALOT!!! Hopefully the show will get better….
Maria k. says
Love your show. Bring back Brett. Debra should concentrate on her news show and leave crafting to her own personal time schedule.
Donna says
Have pretty much stopped watching the show I have watched since the beginning. Too much chatter and not enough viewing of how the project is made. I don’t think this is something for Deborah Norville. Not a news show.
Carla Johnson says
Thank you for the new season of Knit and Crochet Now with Deborah Norville. The programs seem crisper and clearer in regard to demonstrations of stitches and patterns. Ms. Norville and her guests do an excellent job. I was disappointed to see an anonymous post, especially since it was a negative comment. If a name is required, then it should be posted with a name.

Just watched Knit and Crochet Now after a long costume project. I like Deborah Norville, however I didn’t like the cutaways from the knitting and crochet to focus on the hosts. I missed what was happening with the project. It’s not wise to compare persons techniques as we are all different and I’m sure Deborah will figure it out, but Brett was awesome at ensuring you could see what was happening with the stitches, at all times. Please inform the camera persons to focus on the stitches and not so much the host. We all know who Deborah Norvile is. Another idiosyncrasy, was interruptions by the host where the professionals would NOT get back to what she/he was previously saying. You miss the point/stitch when this happens. After all these are instructional segments and not journalistic information. Thanks.
Monica Gilligan says
Never cared for Norville in other tv shows. Personal quirk, I find her annoying and do not care to see the show focused on her. Too much diva, not enough crafting. I miss Brett Bara. I don’t make time to view the show any more, although if it comes on unexpectedly, I watch it because I like the usual suspects knitting and crocheting. The set looks more professionally lit, and that’s a good thing.

I’m watching knit & crochet with the new host now and I really like her. I didn’t care for Britt Bara and it was real hard for me to sit through an entire program with her hosting. I thought she was stiff, unnatural, phony and kind of rude. The new hostvis a lot more relaxed in front of the camera and I like her a lot more.
P. Mickler says
I find that I’m not watching the show as much anymore. I really liked Brett a lot better. I guess we each learn better from different people. I’m not going to say anything bad about the current host. The show just seems to go at a faster pace now and is harder for me to keep up. Also, I wish the instructors could look at the audience (us), instead of at the host. They are more than qualified to teach and don’t need to talk to the host all the time. I’m sure the show will do fine. All the instructors are excellent. Best wishes to Brett!
wally says
i agree with what has been said mostly about both hosts. Former host was using ‘cool” and ” we are out of time” way too much, very annoying. Cant find the show anymore, must have changed days and times.
Jan says
I don’t care for Deborah either. Brett was so much better. Don’t watch much either.
Irma says
Really, really, really, really, really miss Brett.
Jeannette says
Well I really like Deborah.! I’m just wondering if she’ll be back for Season 8. And when is the new season starting. Getting sick of watching re runs
Laurie says
I miss Brett. Someone please tell Kristen Nicholis to not switch between knitting in the front and backs of the stitches. She twists her stitches and corrects that, I understand that, but she confuses new knitters by doing that. I used to have friends who were trying to learn to knit watch the program and 100% of them got confused by her technique.
I also think the camera work is poor. Many times they are pointing to the project and we can’t see what in the heck they are pointing to.
Donna Purdy says
Love the show but I sure miss Brett. She was great. Is Vicky Howell available? I would watch anything she hosted. I used to watch her knitting show and I don’t knit. Not ever!
C T says
The show does not have the same feeling. The format is not as welcoming. It feels “scattered” to me now. Not loving Debra Norville as host . I hardly watch, any more.
Susan says
I don’t like the direction the show is going. Sotry to say I will no longer watch.
Lois Henderson says
I like Deborah Norville on Inside Edition, period.Good luck,Brett, but, miss you, miss you, miss you.
Barbars says
This is not the Knit and Crochet Now! website. You all should send your comments to Knit and Crochet Now!. I agree with a lot of the comments here, especially those about keeping the camera and the talk on the project. When the instructor is pointing to something that they’re discussing the camera should be on that in close-up.
Marsha says
Absolutely MISS Brett !!!!!
