sushi wallet kitToday’s giveaway is a somewhat rare item because I don’t think it’s something that is made anymore. The One Stick:Two Stick kits were manufactured by Coats and offered projects designed by Maggie Pace using a bamboo/wool blend yarn.

The idea is that you can make a little something for yourself and share something with friends, hopefully passing the needle art love on to someone else in the process.

The kit I have — which I looked over as a holiday gift idea back in 2008 — is for a small wallet or coin purse you can either knit or crochet and then felt. It’s a sushi wallet because a couple of the design options use a circle motif that looks a bit like a sushi roll, but there’s also an option just worked in stripes if you’d rather. (And while the instructions pictured here show a dark colorway, the actual kit I have is mostly light green with highlights of sea blue, coral and gold.)

There’s enough yarn to make one bag and a bunch of the little sushi motifs, which can be used as zipper pulls and in other ways. The zipper for the bag is also included. You’ll need to supply size 10 US (6 mm) knitting needles, a yarn needle and sewing needle and thread for installing the zipper.

This giveaway is open through Sunday, March 24. To enter, leave a comment below. If you’d like, tell me about your experience with felting. Or sushi. Or whatever.

Good luck!

    Hello,

This kit looks very interesting, haven’t seen them before. I was shown felting with a sheep’s fleece many many years ago.

    Happy days.

I’ve done some felting where you knit items on a large needle, then throw them in the washer. It’s fun!

  4. ellen lai on March 18, 2013 6:43 pm

I have done some needle felting, quite amazing, but need to be very careful with the needles. I love real sushi as a food, we have lots of Japanese restaurants around, and we’ll almost have sushi once a week !

I have yet to try felting – it’s on my “to do” list! But I have made edible sushi quite a few times. :)

I have never tried sushi ! But love this little purse.

  11. Christine on March 19, 2013 5:44 am

I remember seeing these kits when they first came out. I wish I had picked one up. I love felting. It allows you to knit in an easy-on-the-eyes gauge but end up with a compact, dense fabric. I’m also a great fan of sushi!

  12. pam on March 19, 2013 5:57 am

Never tried felting, but this seems perfect since I have a sushi loving daughter this can give one to :)

  13. Sarah on March 19, 2013 6:18 am

My daughter loves sushi and wants to learn to knit. This could be a good way to teach her.

I love felting! I’ve made oodles of slippers, a cloche hat, a couple bags…and I love sushi, courtesy of my spouse who lived in Japan for years.

  15. Mary Mac on March 19, 2013 7:00 am

I don’t eat sushi, so I should have a sushi wallet instead. My sister would probably take it from me.

  16. Charlene Anderson on March 19, 2013 7:46 am

DH loves sushi. I don’t. So he can eat sushi and I can felt sushi.

  17. Jane S. on March 19, 2013 8:12 am

I’ve done quite a bit of needle felting but never the kind where something is knitted and then put in the washer…well, okay, I should say I haven’t done it ON PURPOSE. I did shrink one of my dad’s sweaters once, but then I got to keep it so that was good. For me. :)

  18. Elena T on March 19, 2013 8:12 am

I remember looking at this kit a few years ago and almost bought it, but I didn’t so this chance to win is really great! Our whole family loves sushi (even the kid who doesn’t like fish)

  28. smfsprout on March 20, 2013 11:30 am

I love eating sushi, but I’ve never tried felting sushi. Could be a new way to cut calories and still have fun.

  29. Shawn on March 20, 2013 5:28 pm

My experience with “whatever” has been limited. ;) I have done a bit of needle felting, but I can’t say I am a fan of sushi. :P

  31. Teresa on March 21, 2013 5:54 am

This looks like fun. Thanks for the chance.

  35. Ellie on March 22, 2013 4:36 am

Looks like fun- perfect to do with my friend! And for my sushi-loving family. Once I felted a sweater- ended up having to boil it- it is now a tote bag, with the original inside as the outside- more interesting after felting.

  36. Stephanie E on March 22, 2013 9:23 am

Not sure if it truly counts but I felted wool dryer balls. I attempted needle felting but I broke three needles on one project so I put it aside for the time being. I happen to adore sushi.

  37. vanessa on March 22, 2013 3:17 pm

Hi, I love SUSHI but I have never tried to felt , I usually buy felted items and use them to combine to my sewing & knitting projects. The kit is So So CUTE!!!

  38. Desta on March 23, 2013 2:27 pm

I have really wanted to try needle felting after seeing what women in Africa are doing with the fair trade products the place I work for sells.

  39. LissaG on March 23, 2013 10:29 pm
