Hello, freebie fans, and welcome to the first giveaway of the Craft Gossip Olympic Giveaway! I thought I’d start things off with something really fun that I know, sadly, I am never going to use, so it needs to get in the hands of someone who will.
This is The Sock Knitting Kit from Chronicle Books. (That link is to the publisher’s website.)
The kit includes:
- a 64-page book with sock knitting tips, techniques and patterns for six socks
- a skein of yarn that I think is supposed to be enough to knit the socks pictured on the cover (though there is only one color, a kind of greenish blue)
- 5 steel double-pointed needles, which logic dictates should be size 3 US (3.25 mm)
- all in a slightly smooshed but still useable cardboard box with a cute ribbon handle

If my sample of the kit weren’t mashed up, this would be a great gift. Instead, let it be a great gift for yourself, especially if you don’t know how to knit socks yet!
To enter, leave a comment on this post. Tell me about your sock knitting experience, if you have any, or why you want to learn, if you don’t. This giveaway will be open today only and I’ll have another one for you tomorrow! Good luck and enjoy the Games.

I havnt entered the world of sock knitting yet, but would love to! As it is often cold where I live, I live in socks but would love some big chunky warm ones that I knitted myself!
I have never knitted a sock, or even a pair of socks. I want to try everything so I thought this was somehting I could try!
I have knit baby socks. My one pair of adult socks didn’t fit.
I don’t know how to knit at all, but I’ve been wanting to for quite a while and have mostly just been putting it off. So, maybe this will get me started.
I would love this! I’ve always wanted to learn how to knit socks.
everyone I talk to about sock knitting says its soooo easy. I have tried and can’t seem to get around the heel. Maybe an actual kit with intructions would help me make a wearable pair!

This look to be one lovely giveway. I have to finish my first pair of socks. I still have a lot to learn. I would love to win this kit.
I’ve knit a few pairs of socks. My first pair was a couple of years ago when I took a sock class at my LYS. Since then I’ve done a couple of knit-a-longs including a mystery one. I would love to win this!
I tried knitting socks once also. I only finished one sock and was not very happy with the results.

Knitting my first pair of socks now! So far so good, except when I had to rip out a few rows because I ended up with an extra stitch. :/
It has taken me over a month to get my first pair of socks completed.
I had to get a lot of help with my pattern as I did not know better
that it was not for a beginner. I am now hooked but would love to have
instructions that go from beginner to mire advanced as you go. This kit
sounds like the perfect idea.
Just starting to knit socks with the help of a group which meets at a coffee shop. Kit would be appreciated.
I’d love this kit. I’ve only ever made one sock, not even a full pair, but I’m determined to make many pairs. I made my sock years ago & bit off more than I could chew (small intarsia design when I had never learned how to change colors). But now I’m signing up for a Craftsy course on sock knitting I think I’ll finally be able to make socks.
After 9 years of knitting, I’ve yet to try socks. I once got up the courage and bought sock yarn–those cure self-stripings!–but still haven’t used it. Why this anxiety over socks? Maybe I need a book….
I am just learning to knit, and will be taking a class at our local knitting shop next month. This might be a little advanced for me but it would make a great project for the upcoming winter
I’ve been wanting to try my hand at knitting socks! This would be a great way to get my feet wet. (No pun intended.

I’ve bought other sock books, but have been so intimidated that I never got beyond casting on! Sounds like this kit would be perfect for me to really get started!
I have never tried socks. Everyone is telling me that I would love it and that you have to try at least once. I know that others love doing socks because it is such a portable project. I know that you can make such unusual socks or ordinary too. This would help.
I love making socks and wish I was better at it…..
Socks would be fun to knit!
I’ve attempted socks once only, and I had no success. I’ve love to try again…
I’m relatively new to sock knitting, so I could use all the tips I can get! Would love a chance at winning this kit!
Hi! A kit to learn to knit socks is brilliant! My Mom knit the most amazing socks for me and my boys when they were very little – a long time ago. I miss those socks so much. They just didn’t keep our feet warm. They warmed my heart. Every time I put them on our feet, I would think of Mom’s care. A kit might be just the ticket to get me to knit socks for everyone I know. Or maybe just me:)
I’ve knit three pairs of socks but still have a long way to go to becoming proficient! Would love more information. Thanks for the chance!
It’s been years since I’ve made any socks, and was just this past week looking for my patterns to try again.
I haven’t made any socks. I’m ready for my next knitting challenge.

I just finished my first pair of socks. I made them for myself. There are several mistakes, but I can wear them. Thanks!
This sounds like a great kit! My mother taught me to knit, and one of the first items I made were socks-dp needles, good start, have been knitting ever since!
I have knit a couple pairs of socks – all worsted weight lounge socks for around the house. I would love the opportunity to knit with sock yarn. This is such a fantastic giveaway.
I’ve started and frogged about 5 different sock patterns… So far I’ve never completed a pair of socks. I have not lost hope

My mom and I prefer socks with wool in them and it is getting harder and harder to find them in a retail store so I decided to try knitting some. Wonderful giveaway, thanks.

I’ve just started knitting and am having fun. I’d love to learn to knit socks. Thanks for the giveaway!
I want to learn to knit socks. I made one pair. They are okay, a little loose and required a lot of frogging. perhaps starting at the beginning would be a better approach
I would love to win this. It would be great to pass the time while I am recovering from chemotreatments!
I am new at knitting and would like to learn how to knit socks. I think this kit would be a good way to start!

I started knitting socks a few years ago. I have been using the double pointed needle method. I am really interested in learning how to do the magic loop.
I have knit one sock so far – not a pair, but one sock! I plan on knitting the second one at some point and knitting more, but other projects with closer deadlines came first!
I am sadly suffering from second sock syndrome and could use a kick in the rear or fresh start as socks seems to me the absolute coolest thing one could ever knit!
Absolute sock addict. Have knit lots of different kinds, from Fair Isle, to lace, Old World style, to slightly unconventional.
Would love to win this kit as a way to continue to promote my habit.
Which is socks.
I challenged myself to learn to knit socks this past year ( I choose something new to learn each year). It took me a whole year to knit my first pair but I LOVE them and have worn them with pride. I am now knitting my second pair and have found they are so easy to carry for traveling this summer. I would love to win this kit so I could learn more about knitting socks. I am looking forward to expanding my horizons!!
I had a hard time trying to knit socks with four needles, so I gave up. I still have the project laughing at me in the closet. Maybe I could be inspired by reading a book with so many patterns, would I be able to find one pattern that is not so intimidating or hard and easier to understand? Thanks for the opportunity, you are generous.
Socks are my passion, for the Ravellenics on Ravelry I’m going to attempt to knit 6 pairs at once ^^

To answer the question, I have never knit a sock, yet! I have made a pair of socks on the “sock loom”! (My husband gave me that as a present. That was the result of him going into a craft store intending to get me some yarn, but he said he got “lost” when he saw all the different yarns! lol)
I want to knit a pair of socks, I just have not been brave enough to start!
I have completed one pair of socks, but I have made many singles. I really want to learn toe-up, and two-at-a-time. Maybe I will have more pairs of socks then.
I would love to win. Thanks for the chance!! I got knitted socks for Christmas last year so I’ve wanted to learn ever since.
What fun! Started socks with 2 pairs of yoga socks (no heel, no toe). Ready to move up to the REAL ones now. This kit would be a great start.
I have huge feet and most socks feel uncomfortable. I would like to learn how to knit socks to make my feet happy.
I have been trying to make socks, but ended up crocheting them into slippers instead. I would love to have a detailed book to walk me through the right steps.
My mother knitted me a pair of soft socks and I have worn them out! I want a new pair! I guess I will have to make them myself but I don’t have a clue on how to make them! This kit would be great for me! Thanks!
I have attempted without success to start sock knitting and would love to try again! Maybe this kit would inspire me to learn, Thank you
Would love to have some fun, practical handwork to do during the hot summer months and it would be sweet to have some new socks.
There’s simply no greater feeling than putting on a great pair of socks. It’s something that gets me through the day. On a cold night, amid a snowstorm and the shivers, I always reach for soft and comfortable socks as a source of comfort and warmth. I have never knitted socks, but I would LOVE to learn as I finally believe that my skills are up to par. It would be great to make my first pair!
My friend knits lots of socks and she tried to show me how but it’s hard because she lives 300 miles away. This kit would be great for me to learn.
I have knitted quite a few pairs of socks over the years and I really enjoy making them. I have actually though never made myself a pair, why, I just don’t know why. So if I win this kit maybe they will be for me. Thankyou.
I am just starting to learn to knit socks.
I do have sock knitting experience. I have made three socks before. Of course, the problem with this is that none of them match.
I just started knitting socks in earnest about 6 months ago, so I would like to have a kit.
I must confess though, I would use one long circular needle to make both socks at one time. DPNs come in handy, though for small diameter things like baby sweater sleeves and hats.
Who wouldn’t want something new “sockish” for the stash (collection?)! Thanks for the great giveaway!
I love knitting socks. I use the magic loop method and usually knit toe up. Thanks for the giveaway!
I have no sock knitting experience but it is on my list to try. I had thought to start with double pointed needles first, then maybe venture further.
I have knit several socks but I would love to give this kit to one of the knitters I know who I want to enable to knit socks!

I have made one pair but wouls love to learn how to knit socks properly.
I knit my first pair of socks 2 years ago and loved knitting them so much that I declared last year the unofficial “Year of the Sock” and knit up 13 pairs. Socks are my favourite things to knit and definitely my go-to project when I need a quick knit.
I have knit socks before, but like learning how to improve them. Would love this kit to polish my sock knitting skills.
I’ve always wanted to learn… and I’ve tried a couple of times, but it didn’t go very well!
This is awesome! I just recently started my first pair of socks. I think this is going to be one of my favorite projects to knit!
I would love to learn how to knit socks because I have heard if you wear home-knit socks, you will never want to wear commercial socks again.
Thank you for the superb giveaway. Go Team USA.
I’m a big fan of sock knitting, and have converted dozens of others to the hand-knit sock cult. (There are free patterns for socks on my blog). I beat second sock-itis by knitting them toe-up. That way the boring feet parts are done first, and the fancy tops are like dessert. Happy knitting, K.
When I knit my first pair of socks I followed all the instructions faithfully for a medium sized foot. I did a good job of knitting them too. However, I never measured my foot, which is size 6.5. So the socks are actually way too big. When I wore them I should have realized that I had made a mistake. But I didn’t and made three more pairs. Which are all, of course, way too big for my feet.
I’m Loves2Dance on Ravelry.
My only experience in sock knitting is knitting 2 Christmas stockings. I want to learn how to knit a pair of socks for myself.
I started out making socks for WarM Woolies but now I knit mostly baby socks.
I love sock knitting. I have knit several pair and have plans for many more.
I purchased my first skein of Opal sock yarn and the needles to knit a basic sock in 2003. I finished the first, worked about 1/2 of the second… and frogged the whole thing because the second sock was so much smaller than the first (got the hang of it).
Then I learned 2@aTime/Toe Up… and I made my SIL a great pair of socks… I use the technique for arm warmers, and just did a grafted scarf in lace doing both panels at once.
I love hand made socks… still haven’t made a pair for myself… winning this would be so cool!
Years ago I tried to knit a pair of socks. And I do mean, TRIED! I haven’t attempted it since but would love to give it a try again. Thanks.
I’ve never tried knitting socks!! I would love to win this kit and get a chance to make some socks. thanks so much!

I have longed to master the art of sock knitting, but have always been intimidated by using double-pointed needles and looking at pictures of right-handed instructions. With a 64-page book of instructions and patterns, how could I go wrong?
My sock knitting career got derailed many years ago. I was a beginner knitter and thought my husband ‘needed’ a pair of knit-with-love socks for Christmas. The lady at the LYS assured me that I could knit them and that I had LOTS of time. Well, I knitted. And I knitted. And I knitted (til I was cross-eyed). He got one sock for Christmas – after three months of pretty much solid knitting. He got the second sock around the beginning of April. And guess what? They were too small!! I think it would be an interesting experiment to try again.
I dont know how to knit socks, but it would be fun to learn because I have large feet and finding cute socks is almost impossible.
This is exactly what I need to finally try my hand at socks!!
I knit toe up socks on 2 circs because I had trouble getting top down to fit.
I have only tried to make one sock and it came out way too big. I have yet to try socks again, but they are on my bucket list.
I made 1 pair of socks a few years ago during a sock knit along that went very very slowly so that everyone could keep up. It was for people who were new at sock knitting. This looks like a great kit with all the things in it.
I’ve knit socks before, but could certainly use some more practice and instruction.
After 25 scarves it’s time to move on!
i have knit several socks but always use the same pattern. it would be nice to change it up a bit with that book
Would love to win this kit so I can learn how to knit socks. I need something to challenge my mind.
Taking lessons now, hope to have some in every color and pattern soon.
I have never knitted socks before, but would love to learn. I have two kiddos and one on the way and I would love to master sock knitting so I could keep their footsies warm:)

I’ve knit lots of socks…very few actual pairs though
I would love to learn how to knit socks, so far I have been afraid of trying. Thanks for the chance.
I love knitting socks. They are the perfect portable project and I always keep one-in-progress in my bag for time that would otherwise be wasted (like standing in line at the store, or before a movie starts, etc). I’m always looking for more patterns, and of course can always use another skein of yarn!
Thanks for the giveaway!
I am a novice knitter, but I would love to learn to make socks. I am the type of learner that needs a book to help me along, so it would be fantastic to win.
What a great giveaway! Hope to get lucky. You can also bounce over to my blog for a giveaway. I´ve got the perfect project bags for this kit.
