Whew, we’ve almost made it to the end of the Olympic Giveaway! It’s been a lot of fun for me to get to know you all a little better, and I’ve got a good stack of stuff getting to some better homes, which is wonderful.
Today is another double giveaway, meaning there will be two winners of this beautiful book, which is Knitting Everyday Finery by Mel Clark. This book has such a great concept behind it: knit nice stuff and use it now. These projects are classic, relatively straightforward designs with a little twist that makes them extra-special, whether that’s the way a cable moves down a pair of mitts or the lace edging worked on a simple shawl. You’ll find patterns for all sorts of knit accessories here, as well as a woman’s cardigan and striped lounge shorts and a man’s vest.
I really love this book and there are a couple of things I’d love to make and use from its pages. This would also be a great book for those of you planning any gift knitting in the future, because accessories often don’t have to fit!
Again, I have two copies of this one to give away, so comment freely. Tell me your favorite thing you’ve knit that you actually use (or, if you don’t use it, why not?). My favorite I think I shared a few days ago, the Candle Flame Cowl. I also love the little Striped Baby Hat that was the first thing I knit for my daughter when she was in the hospital (she was born six weeks early but didn’t really have any health problems to show for it, other than being tiny). She’ll be three next month so no one uses it anymore, but it is in a shadowbox so I can remember how far we’ve come!

Oh my most favourite thing I knitted was a scarf for my Barbie which was my first project when I was 5 … 25 years on and it’s still being used by my children and their dolls. I absolutely love that our memories will be intertwined within a simple knitted toy scarf.
Xo Steph
My favourite thing I’ve knit that I use is my reading in bed jacket (although I don’t use it at this temperature)- it has 3/4 sleeves and a crossover front, but nothing at my back (which is propped up in nice warm pillows). It’s also knit in wool reclaimed from my absolute favourite jumper that sadly died a couple of years ago.
The most favorite thing I’ve knitted is a hat made from thick orange wool yarn. I ran out of the yarn as I got to closing up the hat so I used the only spare yarn on hand (which was tie-dye blue and silver) to complete the project and it turned out to be a great statement piece!
Knit then felted hat! It’s so warm and wooly and best of all unique
I knit some simple placemats for our new kitchen table and we use (and enjoy) them every day! I’ve looked over this book and its really cool. Thanks so much for this giveaway!!!!
Wristwarmers. I wear them everyday about 8 months of the year here in MN. I’ve knit several pairs in different weights and colors and graduated to fingerless mitts. Since it’s already feeling like fall here I’m sure I’ll be wearing them again soon.
my favorite knitted items that i make are of all things dishcloths. I can’t make enough of them – i always have one on a pair of needles somewhere in my home.
The favorite things I knit are hats for all my nieces and nephews. I knit them every year for Christmas and they always contact me before hand so I know what color their coat is that year.
My favorite thing is a pair of fingerless mitts. They took one evening to knit but I wear them constantly in winter, thanks to my freezing-cold office! I love love love them.
I bought the needles and need some motivation to make some new useable items, and soon fall will be he with winter Olympics around the corner!
My knit socks are the things I use the most. My family loves all of the blankets and slippers I have made them. Hats and scarves are also well used. I guess almost everything I make is well loved around here!
My favorite item isn’t something I use but gave away. It was an adorable hat and sweater combo with a daisy design for my baby niece.
My favourite knitted item is not something I made but a lovely fine knitted shawl made by my Mum. She made it for my little boy 10 years ago but died of cancer just after his second birthday. She never saw it used for my daughter born 4 years later. My brother and his partner also used it for their little girl born in the February after Mum died. I knit alot and have special things that I have made for my children but this is the most special of all.
My Aestlight Shawl would be my favorite thing that I’ve knit
My favorite thing is a black and white scarf, simple but elegant!
A few years ago I made a sweater out of yarn called Pom-Pom. It is in the beige ecru colors with black. I wear it a lot during the late fall and in the winter. . It is comfortable and yet it doesn’t look worn out.
I tried knitting a poncho for my oldest daughter, and while I can see lots of problems with it (starting with using the wrong yarn, doh!), she absolutely loves it and wears it in the cooler weather.
I knit some extra long mitts in a somewhat scratchy yarn but I use them all the time in cold weather. They keep my hands warm as I read in bed at night when we lower our thermostat to a chilly temperature.
My Transverse Shawlette is the absolute favorite knitting project that *I* use. Made out of Kollage Riveting yarn – it’s so soft around me! I keep it in my craft-room to wrap around me while I’m knitting. Most everything else I make I give away to people who appreciate them.
My afghans are my most favorite things I’ve knit that I use. They were all knit with such a love of knitting and I can just FEEL the love wrapped around me on a chilly evening. (Obviously they just look beautiful at this time of year because of the extreme temperatures.)
Still havent learned yet. Can’t wait to though.
My fav thing I had knitted many years ago during my university studies is jacket with norwegian pattern. I cant wear it anymore since I machine-washed it and was in shock when I saw my jacket changed to small jacket for baby.:-))). I kept it for years since then, but throw it to the garbage last year finally…
I’m learning how to knit hats on circular needles. The idea is to make chemo hats but my first one is in WW for practice. Some child in colder climes will get it.
I knit a darling skirt in the round. But what was I thinking when I used baby blue yarn? I never wear it.
I use most of my knitted projects and give the rest as gifts or to charity. My favorite item is a small blanket used to wrap up in as I watch television at night. It is time to make a replacement due to excessive use.
I haven’t knit anything. Ever. But I would give this book to my daughter, who does. I know she’d love it.
I lost my favorite things I ever knit! A cloche & fingerless mittens, but I’m planning on trying to remake them!
In all honesty the knitted items I use most are my washcloths which aren’t very exciting but get used everyday. On the apparel front I have a hat and scarf set with cables that I love and wear throughout the winter.
My favorite thing I have knitted was a really pretty shawl! It was my first shawl (now I want to make lots more) and it was a mystery knit-along so it made it even more fun!
My most used item is a simple cabled bracelet I made using gray and black yarn. It matches everything I own.
I actually am a crocheter, but have been wanting to learn to knit terribly. The stitches in knit items look so much nicer in clothing, if I won this book it would be the push I need to take some classes. Thanks for another giveaway!
I knit washclothes, we use them everyday. A fun and simple project .
The hats and cowls I make for myself and to give away are my favorites. Easy and affordable to make so I can share with many!
I love knitting scarves!
The summer jacket I knitted a couple of summers ago is the knitted item I use most at present.
Ilove to knit shawls but I use the dishcloths that I have knitted the most.
My favourite thing I’ve knit is pretty easy to decide on. I’m not a very advanced knitter (but hoping to get better). I’ve made at least a dozen pairs of felted slippers for various family and friends (some of them have begged for a second pair after the first ones wore out). I finally made myself a pair and now I finally know what all the fuss is about! Thanks for having all these fun giveaways – a great way to celebrate the Olympics.
I want to knit the cover shawl!
I have a pair of gloves knit out of Opal sock yarn that I wear almost every day in the winter.
It’s always the last outfit I’ve knitted for DD’s doll!
My most favorite knitting piece I completed was my very first…a bolero shrug. I used a delicious shade of green Manos Del Uruguay Maxima. I was just itching to finish. When I finally finished I realized I messed up on the edging of the sleeves but I didn’t care. I put it on immediately only to realize the gorgeous smooshy yarn I used was way to smooshy. I couldn’t put my arms down flat on my sides!! Needless to say, I don’t wear it but I do slip it on from time to time to relive that funny moment.
I made a cable hat. It was my first cabling project and I love it. I wear it as a beanie and as a hat to keep my ears warm!
I think I use all of my knitting but an aran afghan I made is fought over all winter and I have a summer cardigan that I have been wearing this summer. Not sure if my gifts get used or not but I hope they do!
My first sweater, which was the Central Park Hoodie, is my favorite thing I’ve knit. And I wear it all the time!
My favorite thing is a shawl. One of the first things I made with so many mistakes.
My favourite thing i’v knitted was a coin purse for my sister.

These giveaway notices are like the olympic coverage–delayed!! Every day when I click to join in, I am told the giveaway has ended before I even got the message.
My favorite thing to knit was a prayer shawl for my aunt. Loved visiting her and she would be wearing it. Since she has left us but I have the shawl in my possession and in my prayer corner.
My favorite is a pair of slippers that I wear while I work (I work at home) They are part of my official work gear! thank you!
Every one of my scarves that Ive knitted – I get so much use out of them!
My favorite thing I have knit is a doll for my dgd and a sweater for my mom.
I usually give away most of the things I knit.
My favorite thing I have knitted it a baby hat and booties for grand daughter of a friend. Her mom is so pleased with them!
I knit hats of all varieties, so I love them all. I don’t use them myself because I knit them for my older daughter, who does use them!
A sweater I knit many years ago is my favorite item.
My favorite thing that I have knit is a striped blanket. I don’t use it because I made it for my daughter but she uses it.
A warm, soft pair of fingerless gloves. I wear them so often in the winter. And Spring and Fall!
My favorite knitted item is a sweater jacket I made a couple of years ago. My brother and sister gifted the yarn to me for Valentine’s day and I think of them every time I wear it.
I would love to knit a vest. It gets cold here where I live.
I can not say I have a favourite item to knit, what I am knitting is my favourite item at that time. I just love to knit what someone in the family wants. If I knitted just for my self I would at times struggle to find something to make. I just like to see my family happy with what I have made them.
My favorite thing I’ve ever knitted is a cabled cardigan I made for my husband many years ago. He wore it a lot and always told admirers that it won a blue ribbon at the Curry County Fair. I lost my husband 4 years ago in an accident where he was run over by a DUI driver. I gave away most of his clothes, but have kept this sweater. Still looks brand new.
I would love to learn how to knit!
I love to knit the little blankets, I make for the hospital’ for tiny babies. They work up fast and I can use any pattern I would like to try.
I use my kitchen wash cloths!
My favorite thing that I knitted (and yes, I do use it) was my first color-strand project. It was a cold weather head band done in black, white, burgundy, and teal. It was a challenge for me but it was a small and quickly finished project, so I love it! I wear it every winter.
i love my inspira cowl. in the cold winter, i wear it all the time.
My favorite thing that I’ve ever made was a basketweave baby blanket. I don’t use it but the baby does!
My favorite thing is a pair of wool socks for winter television watching. It’s my downtime after work and dinner – warm socks, television, and knitting.
Fair Isle Clock.
My favorite thing to knit is scarves – Thanks!
I haven’t kept anything for myself yet. I love making hats for kids and for my family. I’ve made slippers and cowls and now I’m working on christmas stockings for the family. I just love to knit and it’s pretty neat when the recipient really likes what I made.
I wear all of the shawls and shawlettes I have ever knit, and I enjoy wearing them.
My favorite project has been the socks I knit this past year. I loved learning something new and they are so practical, too! I LOVE when I wear them and know that I knitted them myself. I am in the process of knitting my second pair for my sister-in-law and have plans to do some for my son and husband (in wool when the weather cools off!). I try to knit each day and wish I had “everyday finery” to wear so this book is a great combination. I also love the thought of learning how to make something extra special in a little way. Thank you for these giveaways!
Even not winning, I have found some great knitting ideas.
I knit both dishcloths and afghans that are used quite a bit. If I’m going to take all that time to knit something, I definitely want it to be used. Thanks for the giveaway!
I hope this counts – I knitted a stuffed bear for my grandson when he was born. He is 5 now and still sleeps with Red Bear at night, I have knitted Red Bear a new body twice, a new head once, each arm a 2nd time. I am thankful I used yarn that is easily found in the same colors I used the first time and I can repair him no matter what mischief he gets into.
My fav that I use: a shawl from Vera Kalimacki called Different Lines.
Mittens! I knit a pair of bright red mittens out of wool yarn. I have worn then soooo much that I have used left over yarn to do a duplicate stitch to reinforce the worn places. I guess I should just breakdown and knit a new pair… maybe.
My new fav item to knit is a baby gift of a knitted “baby bag” and matching hat. I have made and given so many away. It has become the one thing new moms expect from me! I have also been asked by others to make them so they could gift them to a new mom. I am always looking at new (to me) items to knit as gifts.
My favorite item i’ve knitted and wear is a shawl called Sunshine.
My fav has been a pair of multi colored socks for my little guy…with a red toe and heel. Now…he’s a men’s 9.5! They are stashed away tho.
