The second Friday in October is designated as I Love Yarn Day, a delightful made up holiday that celebrates all there is to love about yarn and yarn craft.
I’m celebrating by being in a conference all day, which at least means I should get some knitting in public done. I’ll probably be working on the recently requested cat hat my daughter wants.
The Craft Yarn Council is the group behind I Love Yarn Day, and they have some suggestions for what you can do to celebrate, including:
- Teach someone to knit or crochet
- Do something for charity
- Wear a knitted or crocheted item
- Give a gift of yarn
- Take your yarn to work
- Host a yarn-a-bration party
- Knit, crochet and craft in public
- Talk about yarn on social media
If you’re in New York City, there will be a fiber flash mob from noon to 2 p.m. at Union Square Park,14th Street between Broadway and Park Avenues. Participants are asked to wear their favorite knit or crocheted garment and bring a work in progress. Check the website for more information.
Do you have plans to celebrate? Or is every day I Love Yarn Day in your life?
