Or something like that! A Knitted Hobby Horse, that’s what it is!
I recently came across a copy of this book that I’d like to giveaway. Not because I don’t want it, but because it’s an awesome book (yes, it really does have a knitted hobby horse in it, as well as cat toys…).
30 projects all packed up in this book, everything from bags, baby buntings and bookmarks to socks, scarves and sleeves.
Does your coffee need a coaster because it’s hot, and a cozy to keep it that way? This book has it (as well as dishrags to wipe up that coffee that spilled). Mittens, gloves and wrist warmers, toys, blankets, hats and pillows, there’s no end to the versatility. You got a persnickity person to knit for? There’s a project in this book that will save the day.
Want to learn a new technique? This book features projects in fair isle, stranding and felting. Embroidery, cables, lace, bobbles, and then it covers finishing techniques!
Knitted Gifts offers more than 30 projects for every gift-giving occasion. Designs include garments and accessories for the entire family as well as gifts for four-legged friends and the home.
What do you have to do to get this book? Tell me what your favorite, last minute, quick to knit idea is.
Giveaway ends Friday the 19th, hurry!
And.. just for a fun little kicker, I’m going to throw in another book featuring a popular gift item, hats! Hat Heads by Trond Afinnsen.
2 for the price of one…… GO!!

Wow! Great books! My favorite quick knit is a hat. Especially for a baby gift! Thanks for the great giveaway!
Dear me, I’d jump through fire for the Hat Heads book alone!
My quick gift is: Christmas ornaments. Great for housewarmings, wedding gifts, Baby’s First, etc. And you know that the recipent will think of you every year they pull that out! I have yet to see a knit ornament being resold at a thrift store, but there are thousands of hats, scarves, baby blankets and Granny Square everything’s resold!
scarves are my go to gift and even when someone has one of mine already they seem happy to get them
baby blankets too. But seeing the previous posters answer, I may have to start thinking ornament
My last minute quick
to knit gift idea is a
tea cup cosy along with
the tea cup.
Thank you.
Sounds like a great book! I love to knit owl hats as a last-minute gift. Less than 1 skein of Cascade 220 or Patons Classic Wool Merino + a free pattern!
My last minute, quick to knit gift idea is fingerless mitts. But I like the Christmas ornament idea, Liz, I’ll have to try that!
I don’t have a quick-knit gift, because I JUST started knitting! But my quick-sew gift is Amy Smart’s 32-minute messenger bag
My last minute idea is coffee cup coasters. Of course, dishrags are good also.
Hi Junglewife,
Do you have a link for that? I’ve not heard of it.
Thanks
Terrye
Dishcloths/washcloths are the quickest to do, but my second favourite is the Felted Clogs from Fiber Trends. They take a little more time to make, but they are SO well received! I’m currently working on the second go-round on these (the gifted ones from a couple of years ago are starting to wear out!).
I love to make fingerless mitts. I would like to learn Fair Isle on a smaller project. I have issues with instant gratification.
I try to avoid last minute situations by keeping a few hats and scarves around, along with little items in other crafts, and some thrift shop treasures. In a pinch a scarflette or cowl in superchunky yarn on size 17 needles works up very quickly. These are two great books, thanks for the generous giveaway!
Fingerless mittens are great for last-minute gifts and can be quickly knit.
I’m a slow knitter, so I can’t do last-minute gifts. I crochet a tawashi or sew a coaster if I need a last-minute gift.
I love to make things like coffee mug holders, tea pot covers, small purses……I hope I win. Awesome giveaway!
Definitely hats… They don’t consume too much yarn and I can whip out a simpe one in one evening. I’ve also done some cute ornaments for the holidays- out of my stash of course.
i luv to knit hats , the quickness and the easy lap size of the project, less stress on the wrists!
My favorite projects to knit are scarves, socks and hats. They are perfect as everyone needs them.
Mittens. I have my Gran’s old pattern, and can whip up a pair in a weekend. The beauty of them is that for all that it’s a pretty plain pattern you can do an insane amount of things with it from making a plain pair out of a solid color wool to a wildly stripey pair our of your leftover odds and ends to (my favorite) embroidering a pattern into the backs of the hands. Living up here in the north east, I know they’re always appreciated when shoveling.
My favorite last minute gifts are dishcloths. I like to make them up through the year so I always have a few on hand.
I am just getting into knitting – and need lots of great ideas! These two books sound like the perfect challenge!
I admit it, I’ve done the dreaded TP Roll Cover as a last minute gift. I backed it up with a box of candy. She loved it, and the candy.
My favorite last minute gifts are hats or chunky cowl. I am trying to make a few to keep on hand. Thanks for the contest!
I love knitting books. I love knitting gifts. My last minute gifts are cotton dishcloth and tribble set for kitchen or bathroom. I just add a nice bar of handmade soap. Present is ready.
I’ve knit headbands and i-cord bracelets as last-minute gifts for my nieces — very quick and well-received.
Wow! What a generous give-away! Lately I have been into sock monkeys and I can whip one up in a few days. Honestly, I have never knit a hat, but I have been thinking about it!
I would love to win! I just got started knitting and I would be excited to get more ideas.
what a lovely giveaway! I usually make socks or slippers as gifts… or hats. They’re quick
My favourite last minute gift would be a coster for a cup.Great giveaway!
I have a Bag of Tricks, where I keep small finished projects tied in a ribbon. I wrap one up, and bring the bag for instant “exchanges”. But if Im in a real bind, I go dishcloth/ kitchen towel set (mason-dixon books 1&2), or slippers (modified from Ysold Teague’s Whimsical Little Knits vol. 1).
Cowls!
I keep a stash of last-minute gifts already made – hats, scarves, face cloths – but my favorite thing to make at the last minute is dishcloths or face cloths.
I just learned to knit and have limited repertoire, so I would have to say scarves- love to wear and give them!
I’ve been eyin that book everytime I’m in the bookstore!!
I love to do wrist warmers as a last minute knit gift!
I have knit a few things scarves, hats and kitchen potholders.
My favorite is a scarf knitted with two or three strands of yarn on fat needles. Thanks for the giveaway!
Love the hobby horse. My quickknit gift – neck warmers. Generally only require a ball or two.
I have done more socks for gifts than anything else, but speedwise hat is faster and I have done a fair amount of those as well. But really, a basic pair of socks takes only 3 days of knitting if I still do everything else that life requires. I have done hand warmers too but people I know don’t really wear them for some reason.
i am fairly new to kinitting so this book would be coolbeans tp have !!!!!
For speed I will kick out a coffee cup cozie.. they end up being the right size to wear on your wrist until it gets around your hot cup..
Unoriginal as it is, scarves knit up quickly. My favorite pattern is the My So-Called Scarf since it is nice & warm and the pattern is dead simple. And I’ve always got enough yarn around for a scarf!
My favorite last minute, quick to knit idea is a baby blanket. But they are always bigger than I anticipate and never quick to knit!!!
Last minute – a vest…large, small, with cables, mitred, it doesn’t matter. They are quick, fun and portable so I can take them with me wherever I go!
To be honest – I am a quilter being pulled inexorably by my sister and friend into the world of knitting. I have not knit in years- and so a quick go to gift in my mind would be sewn and not knit – I am hoping with their teaching and books like these that soon will change!!
My favorite quick-to-knit gifts are dishcloths. I just learned to knit in October so I made everyone dishcloths for Christmas. They were so appreciated that my friends are already asking for more! I also made several scarves. I’m eager to learn some additional techniques. Thanks so much for this opportunity!
I love to whip up scarves. So many yarns and colors and so little time.
Since I’m pretty new to knitting yet, I would say a dishcloth or scarf would be my quick gift items.
I’m a new knitter, but hope to be knitting quickly enough to turn out gifts soon. I have some sweet slippers in mind…
Ohhh…I love books…and knitting!
My current quick fav is wristwarmers – it’s cold here!
Baby Booties are very easy & very quick to knit. Always a great gift.
Actually, if I won, this would be a gift for my generous knitting friend, because she is always knitting things for other people, including me! I can do nice things with tiny sewing needles, but big knitting needles just confound me!! Thanks for this opportunity!!
My favorite & quick to knit gift is a pair of baby booties for a baby shower – always appreciated & oh so dainty!
I’m a new knitter and my favorite quick gift is dishcloths! Although, I have only given 2 of the ones that I have made away! lol
I’m just learning to knit, and unfortunately my needled just got eaten by the dog….
Mittens or scarfs are quick to make and always a welcome gift.
My favorite last minute gift is either hat or scarf.Everyone can use one or the other and they’re super quick to knit!
Dishcloth is easy and green! I love to give them!
I am not yet a knitter, but my best friend Jordan is, and this book would be perfect for her. She made me the most beautiful purple scarf for my birthday last year, and I wear it every chance I get!
Wow – thanks for the book gift! Not sure how to/ where to go to get it….But my favorite is an airy scarf with fringe. Another thing I do is make coasters and felt them, tie them up in a pretty ribbon and keep a couple sets around for last minute gifts.
My fav hats…. But in reading over all these ideas that may just be changing.
I love knitting Calorimetry from Knitty. It’s so quick and so cute!
I taught myself to knit via books and Youtube just recently and am now obsessed (I already crochet)! My favorite quick gift to make is a cowl or circular scarf. They are versatile and can made wide or narrow, fine or chunky; and can be made with simple or more complex patterns. Judging from my family’s and friends’ reactions, they’re pretty popular gifts to receive too!
Forgot to say that the circular scarves fit everybody too. BTW – Thanks for offering those books as giveaways.
My favorite quick knit idea is accessories; bracelets, scrunchies, necklaces or anklets…
My favorite quick knit is scrubbies. They are so fast and people are always asking for more. You can work them up while watching tv or waiting in line at the store or at the doctor’s office. I put some in a small basket with homemade soap and have an instant gift for personal care or add a small bottle of dishwashing liquid and have an instant gift.
Makes me want to learn to knit
The last minute gifts I like to make are soft washcloths and sachets. They both make up quickly.
Nice give away! Makes me want to drag my sweater out and get those dang sleeves done!
A last minute gift idea would be just a narrow knitted single colour long scarf. Its easy to knit and moves very fast. And because its simple with no designs and border(so its easier to roll).
I would love to be added in the giveaway.

Hats. My mom likes the hats I make. I get a special sense of pride when I wear one. They don’t take to long to make.

From this book, I’m most excited about potential house warming gifts I could keep on hand for when the occasion arises such as the napkin rings and potholders.
unfortunately, I do not knit, but my sister in law does and I know she’d love this:) Thanks!
I hope I’m still in under the wire – favorite quick knit is a hat. Everyone likes to have choices this winter with so much snow.
toys! as tiny as I can make them. It doesn’t matter who they are – most people really enjoy them (especially if you can match an animal or theme to the person).
My last minute gifts are usually scarves, they are fast and easy!
Thanks for a wonderful giveaway
Baby washclothes are my favorite go-to quick knit. They are soft and who can resist knitting for babies!!
Ohh, I’ve been wanting Knitted Gifts!! My favorite last minute knit gift is usually a hat. I like knitting hats just because they are so quick and they don’t take a lot of yarn.
My favorite last minute gift to knit has to be a hat – I make these so frequently, that I have the patterns memorized – could use the ‘last minute gift’ book just so my gift recipients have more variation in the gifts I give them hahaha. Thanks,
Kathleen
I can do a pair of socks pretty fast, but everyone seems to want a set (3) of my dish cloth/face towels in organic cotton. I do three shades of a color or three complimentary colors. My daughter says they are the BEST face towels. Also a favorite last minute knit up are matching set (4ea)of coasters and coffee cozies. Since I always have a traveling project in the works, gifts are easy and give me as much joy as the receiver.

Something I love to do, but is never last minute, are hats for the local cancer clinic!
Oh my goodness, another great book to work from!
I am a procrastinator and not a fast knitter. But I find knitting fever flounce scarves knit up at 8 inches per hour and have been extremely well received. In fact the recipients like them so much they ask for more, or for the pattern. I don’t love making them, but it’s the price I pay for procrastination and totally mindless knitting.
All of my gifts are made at the last minute
But I really like knitting little itty bitty robots as last minute gifts– they’re cute, gender neutral, and make great additions to key rings.
