A Chunky Cowl You Can Knit this Weekend

I don’t mind when a project takes a long time to knit (as the number of projects I’ve taken years to knit can attest) but sometimes it’s nice to have something on and off the needles quickly. Especially in the transition season, when it might be cold one day and warm the next. (Where I live we’re in the cold day part of that cycle.)

Enter the Easy-to-Knit Chunky Cowl from Red Heart, designed by Diane K. Moyer. The name really tells you everything you need to know. Bulky yarn makes it a fast knit, and eyelets make it even faster but still really easy.

This is a great one to knit if you need a new accessory right now, or keep it on hand for last-minute gift knitting.

Oh, this one has proper old-Hollywood winter charm.

The Pembroke Coat is a vintage knitted coat pattern that instantly made me think of crisp winter walks, leather gloves, polished boots, and the sort of coat your grandmother would have casually worn while looking impossibly elegant. It has that beautiful longline shape, a classic collar, button front, sleeve tabs, pockets, and a smart plaid-style design that gives it such a tailored finish.

This is not a quick “knit it while watching one movie” sort of project — and honestly, that is part of the appeal. The Pembroke Coat is one for knitters who love a satisfying vintage knitting pattern with a proper garment construction feel. The updated PDF includes the original vintage reference image along with a modern mockup, which makes it much easier to picture how this coat could look in today’s wardrobe.
