Kids are always cute in hats, but I think kid’s hats are just that much cuter when they look like something else, whether an animal or another object.
Gina Michele has a cute knit apple hat for toddlers, but the hat itself is pretty simple so you could embellish it in lots of different ways to make it look different. Maybe knit the hat orange or brown and add maple leaves to the top, or a vine that would make it look like a pumpkin.
And you could do similar things on a basic Stockinette hat for a bigger kid, if your bigger kid will be willing to wear an embellished hat.

It feels like it’s too early to be thinking about back to school, but as I write this my daughter has just a couple of weeks of summer left! So let’s get in that school and fall knitting spirit by looking at some apple knitting projects.
