Brioche Knitting Patterns

July 21, 2021 by Sarah White

Brioche knitting is pretty popular right now, and it’s a great technique to know because it makes super squishy, super warm fabric that’s great for a lot of uses. Whether you’ve never knit brioche before or you’re looking for a new challenge, you’re sure to find something you like in these brioche knitting patterns from Etsy.

If you’re completely new to brioche, the best place to start is with a straight, solid-color project, like this scarf from Knitted Wishes. It will give you loads of practice on the basic stitch and leave you with a comfy scarf that’s great for anyone to wear.

Lavanya Patricella has a ton of great brioche knitting patterns for all skill levels, but she has a cowl that’s designed for people who are new to brioche knitting. This one is worked in the round in bulky yarn using two colors, so it adds that skill once you’ve learned the basics.

Another easy two-color pattern is this hat from Handmade by Smine. It uses fingering weight yarn and is sized from teen to adult (one size, again, brioche is stretchy).

I’ve never seen brioche done on a knitting loom before, but if you like loom knitting this hat from Good Knit Kisses looks like a lot of fun. It has some traveling stitches so it’s not for beginners in brioche but it definitely has a very cool look.

Shaping in brioche adds another layer of skill, but this boxy sweater from Donna Eastin Designs uses minimal shaping but includes intarsia to make it even more interesting. This one has a retro look and also looks really cozy.

Snowy Pines Shawl – Another great way to incorporate brioche into your knitting is by using basic increases to make a shawl. One great example of this is the Snowy Pines Shawl pattern from The Blue Mouse. This pattern uses a simple increase method to create a beautiful, textured shawl that is perfect for keeping warm on chilly winter evenings. The pattern is easy to follow and the result is a beautiful and warm shawl. This pattern is a great way to learn brioche knitting and make a nice and warm shawl.

shawl by Whimsy North – In addition to being a versatile technique on its own, brioche knitting can also be a lot of fun when combined with other knitting stitches. One great example of this is the shawl by Whimsy North, which showcases the beautiful texture of brioche in combination with other stitches, creating a truly unique and stunning piece. This combination can add depth and interest to your project and showcase your skills as a knitter. So don’t be afraid to experiment with different stitch combinations and see what you can create.

Finally, for a cowl that goes a little deeper into brioche knitting techniques, this one by The Feminine Touch is great for learning and for gift knitting.

Brioche knitting is a popular technique that is gaining more and more attention. It is a great technique to know because it creates a super squishy and warm fabric that is perfect for a variety of projects. Whether you’re a beginner knitter or an experienced one looking for a new challenge, there are plenty of brioche knitting patterns available on Etsy that you’re sure to love.

Here are 5 tips for working with Brioche knitting:

Use a yarn with good stitch definition. Brioche knitting involves a lot of yarn overs and slipped stitches, so it’s important to use a yarn that will show off these details.

Use the right needles. Brioche knitting can be quite dense, so it’s important to use needles that are the right size for your yarn.

Pay attention to your tension. Brioche knitting can be quite stretchy, so it’s important to pay attention to your tension to ensure that your finished project has the right amount of give.

Practice, practice, practice. Brioche knitting can be a bit tricky at first, so it’s important to practice before diving into a more complex project.

Take your time. Brioche knitting can be quite time-consuming, so it’s important to take your time and enjoy the process.
