I love this idea! The Cyclo-Knitter project, by designer George Barratt-Jones, is a bicycle connected to a knitting machine that allows passersby to knit a scarf in about five minutes.
He built the tower that holds the knitting machine and attached it to the bicycle using old bike inner tubes as the drive belts. Check the post for lots of pictures and a video of the machine in action.
When he took the Cyclo Knitter for a test drive, people were able to make more than 30 scarves in two hours. What an amazing way to keep people warm or give them a way to get active and make something at the same time. I think every town needs one!
