I have made knitting spools before for myself and to use in my fiber arts classes with kids. This is another version, from Laurie Carlson Crafts, which might be better for people who don’t have kids and therefore don’t have a huge supply of craft sticks hanging around.
She used nails for the pegs, which is more classic, too, because a lot of old knitting spools have metal pegs that look like nails on them.
Either way, this is a super easy and fun project that you can use to make tons of knit cord, like I-cord without using needles. Kids love doing this and it’s a great first step for learning how to knit for people who might not have the dexterity or patience for knitting with needles.
What do you like to make with spool knitting or I-cord? I’d love to hear your ideas!
