I don’t know why spring just feels like the season of lace to me. If you’re new to lace knitting or just want something easy you can whip up quickly, check out these patterns (or search for easy lace on Ravelry for about 1,000 more ideas).

The easiest lace knitting patterns are known as fagoting, patterns where pretty much every stitch is either a yarn over or a decrease. This makes a pretty mesh pattern and gives you a lot of experience with whatever decrease is used in the pattern. This Easy Lace Mesh Scarf from OX Knit uses a yarn over, knit 2 together pattern on every other row to make a pretty mesh scarf that’s perfect for spring and summer.
Another mesh-like pattern is found in the Easy Breezy Summer Poncho by Lynn Stitchman, which just might be the thing to get me to want to knit and wear a poncho.
Starting with a small pattern is another great idea if you’re new to knitting lace, and these candle covers from Claudia Olson are a great choice. They’re small so they knit up quickly and the holes in the lace are perfect for letting in light. One of these with a candle in a jar would be a great housewarming or hostess gift, if you’re into that sort of thing.
Or try a pattern that only has a little bit of lace, like the Lace-Edged Women’s Hat from Headhuggers (check the Ravelry page for variations).
While it’s hard to call something with just a few rows of eyelets lace, a simple triangular shawl with some eyelets like The Age of Brass and Steam by Orange Flower Knits or Lace Lines by Susanne Marondel is another great option for learning the basics.
The Easy Lace Stole from Arlene’s World of Lace looks like it might be a little complicated, but it’s really not. It’s just combinations of yarn overs with slip 1, k2tog, psso decreases (which is not as hard as it sounds). There are lots of great versions of this one, so click through the projects to see how it looks in different yarns, fibers and weights.
The Easy Lace Cowl from NobleKnits uses the same kind of double decrease with pairs of yarn overs to make an ethereal cowl worked flat that’s finished in a hurry (great gift knitting, this one).
Kathleen Taylor’s Easy Lace Fingerless Mittens are a nice pair to wear in spring and summer when it’s still cold where you work, or layer them on top of cheap purchased gloves for a cute look. This lace is just yarn overs and k2togs, so it really is quite easy.
The Easy Lace Meadow Baby Blanket by Estelle McDonald has just enough lace — quatrefoil eyelet, to be precise — to look a little delicate and feminine, but it’s not so much lace or such a hard pattern that you have to pay total attention while knitting, and it doesn’t take that long to knit because there’s still a lot of straight knitting here.
