Easy, Pretty, Fun Knits for Mom

April 13, 2016 by Sarah White

Mother’s Day is coming up in the states a little earlier than I realized, and I thought it would be fun to share some ideas you can knit for the moms and grandmothers in your life.

I searched mom knitting patterns on Ravelry and while some of the patterns actually do have the word mom in the title, many do not, but they are still great options when you need something knitted relatively quick and pretty for someone special, mom or otherwise.

Here are a few of my favourites knitting patterns to get you started.

Some classic patterns come up when you search for mom, including the Honey Cowl by Antonia Shankland, the GAP-tastic Cowl from Jen Geigley and Jared Flood’s Turn a Square hat.

There are great shawls like the Age of Brass and Steam from Orange Flower Yarns (which is on my to-knit list right now) and Melinda VerMeer’s Nymphalidea, which I’ve also been wanting to make for a while.

What about socks? There’s Hermione’s Everyday Socks by Erica Lueder (I’ve had a pair of these on the needles forever, and it’s a great pattern), the Vanilla Latte Socks from Virginia Roase-Jeanes, Rye from Tin Can Knits or Mom’s Fixation Socks by Bobbi Kraft just to name a few.

Why not stitch up a bluebird of happiness for mom? Sarah Elizabeth Kellner’s version is lovely.

Or you could try Mom’s Cabled Mitts from Jessica Jensen, Julia Murtha’s Mom’s Squishy Log Cabin throw, the Mom’s Scrubbers washcloth pattern from Joy Morgan, Mom’s Birthday Cowl from Procrastaknitter (it’s feather and fan) or Mom’s Birthday Hat by Emily Butzi.

Or bring a little humor to mom’s day with the Moms Rule, Dads Drool dishcloth by Judith Prindle. So funny and useful.
