10 Flowers to Knit for your Olympic Bouquet

February 17, 2022 by Sarah White

Are you looking for a unique and special way to celebrate the Winter Olympics or to show your loved ones how much you care? Look no further than this curated roundup of beautiful and intricate knitting patterns for flowers. This year, the medal winners at the Winter Olympics have been receiving crocheted bouquets of flowers instead of live ones, and it’s a wonderful way to commemorate their achievements that they can keep forever.

The Olympians are receiving a combination of roses, Chinese roses, lily of the valley, hydrangea, laurel, and olive branches. While we couldn’t find knitting patterns for all of those, we’ve gathered a selection of pretty roses and other flowers that you can knit for your own Olympic celebration, or for special occasions such as Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, or any other occasion.

In this collection, you’ll find patterns for a wide variety of flowers, including roses, daisies, lilies, and more. The patterns range from simple and easy to more advanced, making it perfect for knitters of all skill levels. Each pattern includes detailed instructions, photographs, and helpful tips, so you can create your own beautiful bouquet of flowers with ease.

Whether you’re looking to create a special gift for someone you love, or simply want to add a touch of beauty to your home decor, these knitting patterns for flowers are sure to inspire and delight. So grab your needles and yarn, and get ready to create your own stunning bouquet of knitted flowers. The Olympians are receiving a combination of roses, Chinese roses, lily of the valley, hydrangea, laurel and olive branches. While I couldn’t find knitting patterns for all of those, here are some pretty roses and other flowers you can knit for your own Olympic celebration, Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, or any other occasion.

Lion Brand has put together a kit that includes several flowers and greenery, as well as a knit bow to tie the bouquet together. (This one is directly inspired by the Olympics so I’m not sure how long it will be available.)

Ohmay Designs’ Rose is a pattern on Ravelry that uses DK weight yarn (though you can use whatever yarn you have to make flowers of different sizes)

iknitdesigns on Etsy has a cute pattern for a little bouquet of rose buds (or as she calls it a rose posy). They use DK-weight yarn

The Rose pattern by Libby Summers is a free pattern on Ravelry that includes a stem you could add to some of these other flowers that don’t already have one.

The Peruvia Rose is a free pattern from Berroco that uses bulky wool and is felted to hold its shape.

The St. George’s Day Rose by Dianne Jones is a free pattern using DK weight yarn that looks like a rosebud.

If you want to move beyond roses, this Snowdrop pattern via Ravelry from Norman Schwarze is a pretty addition that looks somewhat like the lily of the valley in the Olympic bouquets.

And if thinking about knit bouquets has you wanting to knit a bunch of flowers, check out the books 20 On the Go Projects: Knitted Flowers by Susie Johns and Knitted Flowers by Alison Howard. Nicky Epstein’s Knitted Flowers is also a classic!

Have you ever knit flowers before? I’d love to hear about your favorite patterns.
