My favorite kinds of knitting patterns are those that use unexpected designs and techniques but that are still not that difficult to pull off.
The Revel Modular Shawlette from Plymouth Yarns (via Noble Knits) is a great example of that kind of a pattern.
It’s worked in six pieces: three triangles and three rectangles. The pieces are joined as you go and they’re knit in Garter Stitch, so it’s pretty easy knitting.
What’s more, the project only takes one ball of yarn, and the self-striping yarn used is a lot of fun and gets broken up a bit by the modular pieces of the shawl. Very clever.
Have you worked with modular knitting before? I’d love to hear what you did.

I’ve been using up scraps of worsted weight wool to make blankies for all the cats in my extended family, using the modular Sock Yarn Patchwork Recipe from Martine Ellis:

Great fun! And the cats don’t care what colors I use.
Thanks for the shawlette pattern.
