Heart Hats to Knit for Valentine’s Day

February 1, by Sarah White. Leave a Comment

It’s been a few years since I’ve done a roundup of heart-themed hat knitting patterns (you’d be surprised at how many there are!) but with Valentine’s Day around the corner I figured I would look and see what new options were available.

Hats are a great project to make around Valentine’s Day, because in the northern hemisphere, it’s often cold this time of year. But of course hearts are an all the time motif, so stitch these whenever you want to spread the love around!

The All My Love, All My Kisses hat has a lot of fun colorwork because it includes hearts and x’s and o’s. There’s even a little bit of chevron fun. It has a deep ribbed edging for extra warmth and uses worsted weight yarn. It comes in two sizes, was designed by Jessica Pelon and is available on Ravelry.

Looking for a hat pattern with a video tutorial? This cute pattern from The Blue Mouse Knits is available for free as a video pattern or you can buy a print version on Ravelry or Etsy. It features small hearts with individual stitches worked in the contrasting color between the hearts so that your floats don’t get too long on the inside of the hat.

Another cute hat that combines hearts and contrasting stitches is this one from The Knitting Practice on Etsy. It has a round of hearts with little stitches in between and is super cute with or without a pom-pom.

The Heart Hat for Valentine’s Day from Courtney Larson is free on Ravelry and comes in kid and adult sizes. It uses worsted weight yarn and has outline hearts pointing in different directions to add to the fun.

Need a hat for littler kids? The heart stocking cap from Little Red Window is sized for newborns up to 2T+. It has allover heart motifs and a simple stocking cap shape. It’s worked in worsted weight yarn and you can get it on Ravelry.

If you want a more subtle heart design, try making you hearts with cables. This cable hat pattern with heart cables is from Endearing Knits on Etsy and is worked with worsted weight yarn. It’s good to have a little knowledge of cable knitting before stitching this one.

Little heart motifs are sprinkled all over this mini hearts hat pattern by Susan Knit Design on Etsy. It calls for two colors of worsted-weight yarn but it would be cute to do the hearts in stripes, too, or to use a self-striping yarn so that the hearts change colors as they progress up the hat.
