I wear socks most of the year because my feet are always cold, but when I start thinking about fall knitting, it makes me want to knit a new pair of socks.
The Kestra sock pattern from Vanessa Smith is a pretty colorwork design worked with two colors of DK weight yarn, which makes these a little thicker than normal sock weight yarn socks. A chevron pattern runs down the leg and the top of the foot, with alternating color stitches on the bottom of the foot. Twisted rib accents the top of the leg.
It has a forethought heel (worked after the rest of the knitting is done, but planned for so you don’t have to cut your knitting to make room for it) which is a fun technique that doesn’t really increase the difficulty of the socks.
