If you need a Halloween costume without a lot of effort, but still want to incorporate something hand made, check out this easy Witch’s Hat pattern from Maggie’s Rags.
It’s worked from the top down in the round so you can use any yarn and you don’t have to get any particular gauge, just keep knitting until it fits the person who is going to be wearing it.
Of course that works perfectly if you’re knitting for yourself, or someone whose head you have easy access to, but if you’re making it for someone else, check out the standard head measurements used by the Craft Yarn Council.
