The Modern Mudcloth Sweater from Chinua “Chin” Matthews is such a work of art. Inspired by the mud cloth traditionally made by the Malian people, the sweater features allover colorwork in black and white, which are common colors found in mudcloth fabric.
The symbols are thought to confer protection to the wearer.
The sweater uses a variety of traditional symbols and is worked in sport weight yarn. There are 16 sizes available, from 32 to 64 inches chest measurement. It’s meant to be worn with about 3 inches of positive ease.
