I think coffee cup cozies should really overtake scarves at the perfect first knitting project. They are a lot smaller and faster to knit, and if you drink coffee or tea they’re probably a lot more useful than something you can only wear in one season.
They don’t have to fit a person and can be a little funky, so it’s fine if your knitting isn’t perfect, too.
If you’re the sort of newer knitter who wants to learn everything all at once, something like the Double Seed Stitch Coffee Cozy from Mama in a Stitch would be great, too, because you’d get to tackle knit and purl at the same time.
It uses just a little bit of yarn, is knit flat, and will knit up in no time, even for newer knitters. For those of us with more experience, it’s a great go-to for a last-minute gift with a new to-go cup and a coffeeshop gift card.
