Remember when I told you about LanaMundi Yarn’s Silverspun? It’s a really cool cotton yarn and lycra yarn that’s blended with silver threads, which are not only thought to be helpful for blood circulation but is also conductive, meaning you can wear a glove made out of the yarn and still work your electronic devices.
I tried the yarn out on a single finger and found it fun to work with and it did allow me to use my phone while I was wearing it. I still intend to knit some gloves with silver fingers this season; I’ll let you know when that happens.
In the meantime, Feel Good Yarn Co., which distributes Silverspun, has released a new pattern called iMitt 2.0, a mitten with an individual thumb and index finger for ease of texting while warm.
The pattern is $4.99 and uses two skeins of the yarn, which is now available again thanks to a successful Kickstarter campaign.

Jorid Linvik’s Big Book of Knitted Mittens: 45 Distinctive Scandinavian Designs is sure to inspire you to want to knit some fun mittens, whether embellished with classic motifs like birds, hearts, moose and classic colorwork designs or those with a more modern feel liks guitars and skulls, a giraffe, penguins or a turquoise lizard.
The book includes a lot of instructions on how to make your mittens come out right, including a discussion of how different gauges can give you different sizes of mittens (and which mittens can be worked to different sizes for kids and adults). The charts are a little different from others you might have seen in that they show how to divide the stitches on the needles and where to place the thumb.
