I love knitting patterns that use a little bit of color amid a more neutral background, though of course you can make all your color choices bold if that’s a thing you like.
The Wavemaker shawl from Edwin John Knits is a great example of how a little color and a fun stitch pattern combine to make something really fun.
A solid color combines with multicolored dropped stitches for a dramatic effect that’s super easy to accomplish. You could even use odd balls and leftovers for the dropped stitch sections to make them even more colorful.
The design is available for £6 from PayHip and Ravelry.
