More Tops to Knit for Summer

July 9, 2024 by Sarah White

I know I’ve already shared a collection of T-shirt knitting patterns and tank top knitting patterns with you this season, but it seems like there are always more great patterns coming out and I keep seeing more patterns that I want to share, and they’re basically all I want to make right now. So here’s another quick collection of summer tops you still have time to knit if it’s warm where you are, or to get ready for summer if you’re in the wintry part of the world.

Let’s start with tank tops. I love really simple designs for tank tops because I use them for layering throughout the year. This one from Knit Bee Kate on Etsy is a great one because it’s super light weight and has a V-neck in the front and back to make it super comfortable in hot weather. The pattern doesn’t indicate what sizes are included but does not that it is easy to customize and includes instructions for doing so.

The Drawstring Camisole from Purl Soho isn’t a new pattern but I don’t think I’ve shared it before. This one reminds me of a sewn top I made a few years ago and just rediscovered cleaning out my fabric stash. The simple shape makes it great for beginners, with just a little challenge in that it starts with a provisional cast on to make the drawstring casing at the top. The pattern comes in 8 sizes up to a 61.25 inch chest circumference, and is worked with fingering weight yarn.

For the hottest of summer days when you still want to look pulled together, try Top Ibiza, a free Ravelry download from Arvier Silke. The pattern uses sport weight yarn and it looks like it only comes in one size, but the pieces are simple enough that you could alter it to fit and/or for what yarn you have on hand.

If you prefer something with a bit of a sleeve, try the Little Black Tee from Tayler Earl. This DK weight top has a little cap sleeve and is a super simple design that will fly off your needles in no time. It comes in nine sizes up to a garment size of 63 inches/160.5 cm, and is meant to be worn with 3-5 inches/ 8-13 cm of positive ease. You can find the pattern on Ravelry.

Add a little cuteness to those sleeves and you won’t even be sad that the rest of the project is plain knitting. The Auri Tee from Hook Mountain Handmade uses DK weight yarn and is worked in the round from the bottom up, with a little bit of leafy lace on the sleeves and across the top of the shoulder. It’s a cute touch that elevates an otherwise basic project. This one is available in 10 sizes and you can grab it from Ravelry.

Finally, when you want a project to show off a little bit but that’s still easy to knit, consider Luminos from yamagara. This one is knit from the bottom up using a garter tab type cast on and with a construction that’s similar to a shawl. The wedges are joined as you do to make this a totally seamless and reversible project, and the burst of color from the contrasting yarn makes it all the more fun to knit and to wear. This one is also on Ravelry, and it’s available in seven sizes.
