Fifty knitters from 50 states are taking part in the “Sisterhood of the Traveling Shawl Project” before the result is raffled off in October.
Proceeds will go toward breast cancer research.
A portion of the mauve-colored shawl recently made its 40th stop en route from Alaska at the home of Salt Lake City resident Nancy Moore.
Moore, 51, volunteered to intricately knit six rows for the shawl for personal reasons. This special education teacher was diagnosed with Stage 2B breast cancer in May 2005.
