I love these little gnomes, appropriately called the Stay at Home Gnomes, designed by Alison Davis.
The originals had rainbow striped hats, but you can see some patriotic gnomes (US and Canada) on the pattern page on Ravelry, and of course you can style your gnomes however you like — solid or striped or a statsh-busting array of colors. Change up the hair or the boy gnome’s beard, add buttons or embroidery or anything else you like.
The projects use DK weight yarn (or you can use a different weight and corresponding needle to get a gnome of a different size). You can download the pattern from Ravlery where it costs £2.50.

For the past few years I’ve taken part in a Christmas in July blog hop that encourages people to get a jump on their making for holiday gifts.
