I’ll admit that while I have knit a few pairs of ankle socks or short socks in the past, I never really enjoyed wearing them until this spring.

They are really nice when you don’t want a big, long sock, but you don’t want to wear your shoes without socks, either.
I also tend to have cold feet so they are a nice choice for wearing around the house in the summer, too.
My favorite short socks pattern might be the one from my Colorwork Knitting book. They’re a nice length but still really quick and easy to knit. I was looking for a similar free pattern to share and the best I could do was the ankle socks pattern put out by Bernat a long time ago and now only available via the Wayback Machine.
If you like short socks that aren’t too short, give this one a try. If you have a favorite pattern for short socks I’d love to hear about it!
