It looks like it’s been a really long time since I last wrote a post about tea cozy knitting patterns, but with cold weather coming (I’m sorry to tell you) in the Northern Hemisphere it’s a good time to think about them.
Tea cozies run the gamut from simple to silly and we’re going to cover a little bit of everything.
On the simpler side there’s the Teapot Turtleneck from Suzanne Resaul (which is a free pattern on Ravelry). This one starts in the round, then the main part of the body is worked flat to allow space for the handle and spout. The top is worked in the round again to make your teapot extra cozy and give you different options for using it.
Frankie Brown’s Mistake Rib Tea Cozy is also free on Ravelry. It uses DK weight yarn and all the options shown on the pattern page use a multicolored yarn, which adds a bit of interest beyond the fun stitch pattern.
Boost the skill level of your tea cozy by adding some cable work. This design is from Cindy Craig Designs and combines little twists with a larger diamond cable. It also has a ribbed top to keep your kettle extra cozy. This one uses DK weight yarn.
Add a little whimsy to your tea cozy by stitching it beehive style and adding a little bee to the top. This pattern is from Carol Rosa and uses worsted weight yarn.
On the sillier side there’s this sheep carousel tea cozy from Kate Davies Designs. It uses fingering weight yarn in two colors (though I think the top would be cute in red and white, too) to make a carousel where all the characters are sheep. You can find it on Ravelry.
Another one that’s part silly, part sweet, is this cozy with a cat sleeping on top. You know your cat would sleep on your tea pot if it could fit up there. The design is by Cosy Pots and uses two strands of DK weight yarn held together. You can make the cat whatever colors you like to fit a cat you know.
The other day I saw a post from
