Thanksgiving Knitting Patterns

October 26, 2023 by Sarah White

Thanksgiving as a crafting holiday tends to get passed over. We love making pumpkins for Halloween (which can also be for Thanksgiving, it’s true) and ALL the crafting for Christmas, but maybe because we’re so focused on cooking there’s not a lot of time left for holiday crafting.

Let’s check out a few Thanksgiving knitting patterns for the table and a little bit of cute decor you can make for this fun foodie holiday.

The turkey dishcloth from Yarnspirations adds a bit of fun to doing the holiday dishes, though I think I would use it for display more than actually cleaning purposes. If you didn’t include the legs and other details it would be easier to use as a dishcloth, but it’s super cute this way.

A more traditional washcloth with the turkey worked on a square can be found from Daisy and Storm on Etsy. You can use DK or worsted weight yarn and the pattern is presented as a chart or in written instructions.

Sherrie Kibler’s Thanksgiving napkin rings are super cute and easy to stitch with a little colorwork done stranded knitting style. They’re worked in the round and bunched up to make a little tie like shape. You can get the pattern on Ravelry.

Keep your wine cozy — or use a bottle as a table decoration — with this Thanksgiving Skol wine cozy from Ellen Susanne. It’s worked in the round from the bottom up with worsted weight yarn and includes a lot of stranded colorwork including pumpkins, hearts, turkeys and the word thankful. You can find the pattern, as well as a collection of bottle cozies for every month of the year, on Ravelry.

Or make a potholder for your pie with the Blessed apple pie potholder from Donielle Oliver Showvay. This pattern uses superfine yarn and double knitting to make a potholder that’s both thick and pretty. You can get it on Ravelry.

Of course knitting turkeys is a great thing to do for Thanksgiving, and I’ve collected a lot of turkey knitting patterns before, so be sure to check those out if you’re looking for more ideas.

Knit a Glasses Holder for Your Bedside Table

knit glasses holder

Not too long ago I was seeing a crochet pattern for a glasses holder shaped like a bear all over the Internet. It was super cute, and also useful as a place to put your glasses on your bedside table instead of just throwing them somewhere random.

This project stewed in my brain for a little while and I decided I needed to make a knit version, but I didn’t want to make a bear. If you know anything about me you might know that I’m a cat person, so of course my version had to be a cat.

The base is just a basic little basic worked from the center out to the desired size, then up the sides as long as you want them. Knit some ears and add embellishments to make it whatever kind of animal you want.

The way I figured out to work the base from the center out was to use a crochet cast on, which gives you an easier way to pick up stitches from the back of the cast on than if you worked a more traditional cast on for a knitting project. It’s kind of fun to do things in a different way from time to time.

This little project is adorable if I do say so myself, and even as a plain little basket not made into an animal it’s a cute way to keep your glasses or other little things in one place. I’m tempted to make one for my desk to hold pens or even little little scissors and sewing needles that are always on my desk but somehow always seem to get lost on my desk.

If you need a little holder for your glasses on your table, check out the pattern at Our Daily Craft.
