This trend seems really problematic, but apparently a company is selling knit cat scarves in Japan and they are becoming a popular item there.
According to the story, they are knit in acrylic yarn for softness and washability. They look to be worked in Garter Stitch on maybe eight or 10 stitches. For small cats, they are 21 to 25 centimeters (8 to 10 inches) long, and for larger cats, 26 to 30 centimeters (10 to 12 inches). So you could make your own in just about no time.
My worry is the safety issue. How is this attached to the cat’s neck, exactly? Even an indoor cat could get it caught on something and hurt themselves, and I certainly wouldn’t let a cat wear it outdoors.
But for photos, it is pretty darn cute.
What do you think about the knit cat scarf trend?
