I don’t know why I think of colorwork as being especially appropriate in fall and winter. I guess it’s because stranded colorwork makes extra-thick and extra-warm fabric. (Though this pattern is actually mosaic knitting, which is just one color per row.)
In any case, the Columbia River Jacket from Kay Hopkins Designs recently caught my eye, and I think it would be a great jacket for fall.
It’s worked from the top down in the round and uses mini-skeins to give the ombre effect. I love how the color is repeated near the cuffs and hem.
