Fun Star Wars Knitting Patterns

May 4, 2016 by Sarah White

As I write this it is May the Fourth, an unofficial Star Wars-related holiday, so it seemed only fitting that I share some Star Wars knitting patterns with you.

Last year I shared some simple coffee cup cozies that are super cute and easy to knit in Garter Stitch and embellish to look like characters from the movies.

Of course I couldn’t do a Star Wars knitting roundup without Nicole Kostelec’s knit Death Star, which is a thing of beauty and good sized, too, about 14 inches. Or go smaller scale with the Death Star Beanie from Jen Cornelius.

Or Sarah Rudder’s lifesize R2D2, the original of which was made to fit a cement pillar for a yarn bombing. If you like your R2s smaller, try the can cozy R2D2 from Robin Barnhill.

If you need a knit light saber, Carolyn Joan has a good pattern.

Of course there are knit Yodas. My favorite is probably Valerie Johnson’s Yodagurumi, but I also love the Yoda baby bottle cozy by Gabrielle Thériault, which actually inspired the other pattern. And if you want a Yoda hat, I recommend The Force You Shall Feel from Jenifer Spock-Rank. And Phoney’s May the Mouse Be with You is pretty darn adorable, too.

Feeling more “The Force Awakens”? Why not knit a BB8 (the pattern is from the Knit Guru) or a BB8 Hat? (Hey, I made one of those, too!)

And the good guys shouldn’t get all the good knits, so check out the Stormtrooper Hat from Lorraine Prior and JennyPenny’s amazing Dark Side mittens.

Can’t decide if you’re feeling light or dark today? Don’t miss the spectacular double knit Pick Your Side Cowl from Tricothon — it features the Death Star on one side and Rebel fighters on the other. So cool.

Looking for more Mandalorian Star Wars Knitting Patterns? Check these out on Etsy.

Wondering why there is a new hype on Yoda or Baby Yoda? Have you seen the Star Wars show The Mandalorian ? Well everyone loved Yoda the first time around and now that he is baby Yoda he is even more adorable. This project is easily adapted for a Baby Yoda pattern, craft project and or tutorial.

Knit a Stunning Bestiary Scarf

I don’t even know what to say about this amazing knitting pattern. The Bestiary Scarf from Monstra & Mirabilia is so full of details it’s a little intimidating to talk about.

It features, as the designer describes it, an “artistic encyclopaedia of Western mythical creatures.”

The pattern includes a dragon, harpy, Medusa, chimaera, centauress, phoneix, kraken, mermaid, sew serpent, cyclops, wyvern, Pegasus, amphiptere and amphibaena. (It’s a good thing there’s a photo of the proejct with everything labelled because I definitely didn’t know the names for everything.) It’s also designed like a landscape, with water and land creatures toward the bottom ends and sky creatures toward the top.

The dragon is at the center and is worked sideways so it will show as upright when you wear it.

The scarf is worked in double knitting, so the colorwork appears in the opposite colors on the other side.

It’s worked in light fingering weight yarn (on size 0 US or 2mm knitting needles) and the colorwork is shown in charts. The pattern also includes some video tutorials and written instructions to help you along. The designer says the pattern is for intermediate knitters, and “advanced beginners may succeed with patience and the help of the video tutorials.”

When I was an advanced beginner this kind of a pattern would have brought me to tears, but if you love a challenge, and a project that you’ll wear and get tons of astonished reactions every time, this is the project for you. And of course if you have a few double knitting projects under your belt and are comfortable reading charts, this project shouldn’t be hard, but that doesn’t mean it’s fast. But lots of great things take time, and that’s never stopped us before, right?

You can get a copy of this pattern from Monstra & Mirabilia on Ravelry.
