Fun Star Wars Knitting Patterns

May 4, 2016 by Sarah White

As I write this it is May the Fourth, an unofficial Star Wars-related holiday, so it seemed only fitting that I share some Star Wars knitting patterns with you.

Last year I shared some simple coffee cup cozies that are super cute and easy to knit in Garter Stitch and embellish to look like characters from the movies.

Of course I couldn’t do a Star Wars knitting roundup without Nicole Kostelec’s knit Death Star, which is a thing of beauty and good sized, too, about 14 inches. Or go smaller scale with the Death Star Beanie from Jen Cornelius.

Or Sarah Rudder’s lifesize R2D2, the original of which was made to fit a cement pillar for a yarn bombing. If you like your R2s smaller, try the can cozy R2D2 from Robin Barnhill.

If you need a knit light saber, Carolyn Joan has a good pattern.

Of course there are knit Yodas. My favorite is probably Valerie Johnson’s Yodagurumi, but I also love the Yoda baby bottle cozy by Gabrielle Thériault, which actually inspired the other pattern. And if you want a Yoda hat, I recommend The Force You Shall Feel from Jenifer Spock-Rank. And Phoney’s May the Mouse Be with You is pretty darn adorable, too.

Feeling more “The Force Awakens”? Why not knit a BB8 (the pattern is from the Knit Guru) or a BB8 Hat? (Hey, I made one of those, too!)

And the good guys shouldn’t get all the good knits, so check out the Stormtrooper Hat from Lorraine Prior and JennyPenny’s amazing Dark Side mittens.

Can’t decide if you’re feeling light or dark today? Don’t miss the spectacular double knit Pick Your Side Cowl from Tricothon — it features the Death Star on one side and Rebel fighters on the other. So cool.

Looking for more Mandalorian Star Wars Knitting Patterns? Check these out on Etsy.

Wondering why there is a new hype on Yoda or Baby Yoda? Have you seen the Star Wars show The Mandalorian ? Well everyone loved Yoda the first time around and now that he is baby Yoda he is even more adorable. This project is easily adapted for a Baby Yoda pattern, craft project and or tutorial.

A Sweet Skater Dress to Knit

I know knitting a dress sounds like a major time commitment. And that’s before I even tell you that this particular dress, the Sixth Ave Skater Dress by Briana Luppino, is worked in light fingering weight yarn.

But would you just take a moment to look at it and tell me if it doesn’t look like it would be worth all the time you would spend knitting it? And it’s miles of stockinette stitch so it’s actually beginner friendly and a great semi-mindless knit you can take with you on your travels this summer and wear when it is done.

The dress is worked from the top down with tank straps, a scoop neck, waist shaping and a flowy skirt for a fun and comfortable fit.

The pattern has 10 sizes, with finished bust measurements ranging from 28 to 64 inches, or 71.5 to 163 cm. The sample shown was worked with 4 inches/10 cm of negative ease at the bust, and the designer says most people like between 2 and 6 inches/5 to 15 cm of negative ease in the bust and around 10 inches/25.4 cm positive ease in the hips.

(To refresh your memory, negative ease means the measurement of the garment is smaller than your actual body measurement, while positive ease is bigger than your body.)

To pick a size you’d work from the bust measurement because you can always add more or fewer decreases as you need to get your desired fit at the waist and hips. And because it’s worked from the top down you can try it on as often as you like to make sure it’s the perfect fit.

The I-cord edgings give the dress a super casual feel, and I think this would be a great one to add to your summer rotation. (Yes, even with a wool blend yarn.)

You can see lots of cute finished versions and grab a copy of the pattern for yourself on Ravelry.
