Get Inspired by Amazing Colorwork Creations

June 26, 2017 by Sarah White

colorwork creations

Dot is the winner.

This week I want to get you excited about color knitting. The giveaway this week is Colorwork Creations: Knit Woodland Inspired Hats, Mittens and Gloves.

True to the title, this book includes more than two-dozen patterns (check them out on Ravelry) for warm accessories featuring birds, butterflies, flowers, reindeer and more. The patterns are worked from basic patterns with the colorwork charts of your choice subbed in.

From the book cover:

The gorgeous and cozy projects in Colorwork Creations simply beg to be knit. Choose from more than 30 hats, mittens and gloves that pair traditional Sanquhar knitting motifs with birds and beast of the woodlands. Small enough for a quick-knitted gift, but precious enough to cherish forever, these pieces will delight and inspire for years to come.

If you’d like a chance at this fun book, leave a comment on this post before the end of the day Sunday, July 2. I’m a little in denial that it’s almost July! Eek! Tell me your favorite thing you’ve knit this year. Mine is finally finishing a couple of sweaters that have been on the needles for a long time.

Thanks for visiting, commenting and sharing, and good luck!

I haven’t actually finished anything this year yet. I have several baby blankets in the works, the primary one being a cross-stitch blanket I’m doing for my 2nd due at the end of July that I’ve been trying to push to finish. Then I have a backlog of knit baby blankets for close friends and family.

My favorite knitting project this year are wool fair isle mittens. Would love this book for inspiration .

I love that bird on the book cover! My favorite project this year is a simple colorwork hat which I used to learn invisible stranding. I am a convert; invisible stranding is fiddly, but totally worth it.

I finally finished a long line cardigan that I designed myself. So proud!

Looks like a great book! My sister was here this past weekend and specifically requested something in color work. Thanks for the opportunity!

Yeah. I seem to be having some difficulty getting protects off the needles myself. Luckily the one I did finish was a layette for a bestie’s new baby before she outgrew it.

I really love colorwork but for some reason I don’t seek out those patterns. Maybe this book would inspire me!

Every item is my favorite until I move
on to the next project. I’m currently
knitting a lace shawl. My favorite 🙂

I love this picturess type knitting! I finished a pair of fingerless gloves & had a enough yarn left over to make a headband ear warmer.

I am so excited to try fair isle knitting. I don’t know which project was my favorite, maybe my grandaughter’s poncho. Always on to the next project.

I’m usually a sweater or blanket knitter, working on one big project at a time. This year has been mostly about quick knits to use up a bit of yarn in a hurry, and I can’t say I have a real favorite of the items I’ve made. I guess the stashbusting itself is the project I like best, and it’s working so I’ll keep going with it for a while.

My daughter an I Love the woodland theme I would have a hard time choosing which one to knit.

Have you read?

A Sweet Skater Dress to Knit

I know knitting a dress sounds like a major time commitment. And that’s before I even tell you that this particular dress, the Sixth Ave Skater Dress by Briana Luppino, is worked in light fingering weight yarn.

But would you just take a moment to look at it and tell me if it doesn’t look like it would be worth all the time you would spend knitting it? And it’s miles of stockinette stitch so it’s actually beginner friendly and a great semi-mindless knit you can take with you on your travels this summer and wear when it is done.

The dress is worked from the top down with tank straps, a scoop neck, waist shaping and a flowy skirt for a fun and comfortable fit.

The pattern has 10 sizes, with finished bust measurements ranging from 28 to 64 inches, or 71.5 to 163 cm. The sample shown was worked with 4 inches/10 cm of negative ease at the bust, and the designer says most people like between 2 and 6 inches/5 to 15 cm of negative ease in the bust and around 10 inches/25.4 cm positive ease in the hips.

(To refresh your memory, negative ease means the measurement of the garment is smaller than your actual body measurement, while positive ease is bigger than your body.)

To pick a size you’d work from the bust measurement because you can always add more or fewer decreases as you need to get your desired fit at the waist and hips. And because it’s worked from the top down you can try it on as often as you like to make sure it’s the perfect fit.

The I-cord edgings give the dress a super casual feel, and I think this would be a great one to add to your summer rotation. (Yes, even with a wool blend yarn.)

You can see lots of cute finished versions and grab a copy of the pattern for yourself on Ravelry.
