Giveaway: Great Knit Sweaters for Guys Big & Small

July 11, 2016 by Sarah White

Great Knit Sweaters for Gusy Big and SmallCongrats to Jeanne!

If you have a guy — big or little — who you like to knit for, you probably know it can be frustrating to find sweaters that you want to knit and that they want to wear.

The designs in Great Knit Sweaters for Guys Big & Small by Andrea Sanchez aim to fix that problem, with lots of great, relatively simple for the guys but not too boring for the knitter projects they will actually want to wear.

The book has 12 sweaters, sized from child’s size 2 up to men’s XXL, so you can knit the same basic sweaters multiple times, for every guy in the family. Check out all the projects on Ravelry.

Honestly, I would knit a lot of these sweaters, maybe with some different details or more color, for my daughter or myself as well, but they are great staple pieces for guys, too. From a baseball type sweater to a raglan to a circular-yoke sweater, there’s a lot of fun stuff to choose from, whoever you’re knitting for.

If you’d like a chance to win a copy of this book, leave a comment on this post before the end of the day Sunday, July 17. I’d love to know about the guys in your life you knit for.

Thanks for visiting, commenting and sharing the giveaway with your knitting friends. Good luck!

Who wouldn’t love to have a new book of patterns designated just for the “hims” in your life?! I certainly would! They can sure be hard to buy for, especially the older they get, so this would be perfect!! Thanks for the opportunity!!

I have 2 main guys… My hubbo & my son… I’ve knit quite a few things for my son that he wears (and has worn out). He’s a college student ant the biggest hit in the past few years was washable wool earflap hat in school colors. One of his friends even tried to commission me to make one for him until my son intervened.

I knit for my husband and 23-year-old son – in green and white – which are the colors of their favorite soccer team.

I knit for both my husband and my son – but it is so hard to find patterns that they like!

I’m the guy I knit sweaters for. Most of my guy friends only want caps or scarves, and one wants a blanket for his king sized bed (Yeah, good luck with that one, Clyde!) I’ve only knit a sweater for one other guy, years ago. He wasn’t my boyfriend, but he disappeared anyway. Or maybe I did, I can’t remember.

I’m familiar with Andrea’s work, through Ravelry and her blog. It’s great that all but one of these patterns is for all sizes, and that the adult sizes range to include us enhanced circumference guys. Thanks for the giveaway!

I used to knit for my husband, he’s the man in my life! Now I only knit simple and quick things so he got a hat but not a sweater lately. It would be nice to start again a real project.

Knitting for men is a little bit difficult sometimes. They prefer dark colors, straight lines, no decor…. it can be boring but when I knit for my husband I do it with love and I know that a special smile will brighten the day!

Love to have these – my sons/grandson would enjoy the fruits of my labor!

I’ve made things for almost everyone else – I’d love to knit a sweater for my husband!

Coffee Cozy Knitting Patterns

During the summer (which is what it is where I am writing from) I like to share patterns for things that you can knit and use even when it’s warm out. And sometimes they are things you can use when it’s cold, too, like this collection of coffee cup cozies. Because hot coffee is a must almost any time of year.

This simple pattern form Darling Jadore is a great one for beginners and could be a good first knitting in the round project. It uses worsted weight yarn and includes video tutorials if you need extra help.

If you want a perfectly plain cozy that you can jazz up with your own designs, check out the Base Doodle Cup Cozy from Jamie Lomax. This free pattern on Ravelry comes in two sizes (short and long) and is meant to be used with her doodle charts to make it your own. You could also keep it plain, add stripes or design your own motifs to stitch on it.

Most coffee cozy patterns that I see are just sleeves meant to go over travel mugs, but what if your mug has a handle? This pattern from Stacey’s Knit Wits has an I-cord loop and button so you can use it on a mug with a handle or a travel cup. It uses DK weight yarn.

Coffee cozies are a fun way to play with stitch patterns and learn new techniques. If you’ve never knit cables before, this cozy from Purple Wool Co. would be a great first cable project, as it features simple braided cables all the way around. It uses worsted weight yarn and is worked in the round.

Try double knitting to make an extra-insulating coffee cozy with this pattern from Tracy Leming. It includes little color changes so you can get the concept of how double knitting works on a small scale. It also can include a little pocket for a tea bag if you want. This one uses worsted weight yarn and is a free pattern on Ravelry.

Or try stranded knitting with the Love in the Air cozy from Danielle Thuen. It features hearts of different sizes and is worked in sock yarn. You’ll need to make sure those floats are nice and loose so it will stretch to hug your cup. You can find this pattern on Ravelry.

They’re also a fun way to add a bit of flair to an otherwise plain cup. KnitnKaboodle Designs has this lovely leaf-shaped cozy pattern, which you could use for hot or cold beverages by changing up the fiber you choose (that’s pretty much always true). It is made in pieces that are stitched together and can be worked in a single color or choose different colors for each leaf.
