Giveaway: Tweed Yarn Knitting

December 19, 2016 by Sarah White

Tweed Yarn Knitting book review

Andie is the winner!

I know it’s too late for this year, but Tweed Yarn Knitting would be a great book for someone who loves to knit gifts.

It includes a whopping 52 patterns that all use tweed yarn but could of course be knit with whatever you like. It’s heavy on accessories, which is always good for gift giving. And it has some super-simple projects like headbands, hairties and wrist warmers, as well as more challenging sweaters and vests.

In short there’s a lot of variety here, and a lot of things you might find fun to knit for a lot of different people.

If you’d like a chance to win this book, leave a comment on this post by the end of the day Sunday, Dec. 25. I’d love to know if you have any knitting-related resolutions for 2017 or any knitting skills you’d really like to learn in the coming year.

As for me, I took a lot of time away from knitting over the summer and fall, and have been knitting a lot more in the past couple of months. It’s been great, and I want to continue to use (and probably give away) my stash and to knit more for myself as well.

Thanks for visiting, commenting and sharing, and good luck!

I want to finish all of my WIPS. I have 6 at this moment. I am currently working on 2 different ones each day.

I plan on frogging all my WIPs and starting over. I figure if I haven’t finished or worked on them in awhile, then I’ve fallen out of love with them 🙁 This coming year I want to start and finish a big project working with fingering weight yarn!

I hope to focus on brioche a bit next year. I just haven’t been able to master it in one color, let alone two. I think the timing of this giveaway is perfect – for next Christmas! I just barely finished in time this year. so that’s another thing to focus on next year.

I hope to reduce my stash and explore different patterns. Thank you for the giveaway chance.

I would love to be more comfortable with double pointed needles. For some reason I am nervous when I have knit with them in the past.

I intend to learn to knit in 2017. I currently crochet and belong to a group that knits and crochets and I love some of the stuff that other people are working on and would like to be a part of that.

Considering my enormous stash, my knitting-related resolution for 2017 (which I will probably break) is not to buy any more yarn until I’ve depleted my stash.

My 2017 resolution is to do a lot of stash busting and use up my stash. This year I taught myself the Portuguese knitting style and it has been really great. This year I want to learn brioche knitting because I have a pattern for a brioche lace scarf that I’m dying to make.

In 2017 I hope to spend more time adding to my knitting skills. Id like to polish what I already know and add color work and sock knitting to my bag of tricks.

My knitting resolution for 2017 is to be able to knit again!! Since my toddler was born, I have been so busy with her and my job and family that I can hardly sit for a while longer than 5 minutes. So I hope this next year I will be able to relax a bit and knit some items. I would like to make a knitted dress for my girl and something for me, maybe a jacket, or a summer top. Thanks for the giveaway, and have a nice and happy Christmas!!

Right now I just want to get past Row 9 of this shawl I started! The combination of perfectionism, fine yarn, slippery needles, a kinky cord, and laziness preventing me from getting up for my glasses provokes me to start and rip out, start again and rip out again. Twenty times already, but still , I persevere.

Knit and Felt Some Tabi Style Slippers

The felted slipper craze that began last year doesn’t seem like it’s fading away. The Sailor Slippers, often striped knit and felted slippers made with super bulky yarn, because the project of the moment late last year (check out more knit slipper options in this post all about sailor slippers) and they’re still consistently popular with knitters.

Which makes sense because they are fun and fast to knit, and seeing them go from this giant thing to something that actually fits a foot feels a little magical.

I have always loved felting (in fact my first book was about felting knitting) and it’s always fun for me to see people rediscover this technique.

If you’ve knit enough plain slippers to fit all the feet you know, maybe it’s time to stitch up some tabi style slippers instead.

Maymade Knits has designed these cute tabi ballerina slippers, made with bulky yarn and felted. They’re worked flat at first and then in rounds, and are available in 10 EU sizes (the Internet tells me add 31 to your American shoe size to get your EU size). The designer says the slippers are meant to have a close fit and you should choose a size a little smaller than your foot for the ideal fit.

The pattern includes a video tutorial along with the written pattern.

You can grab this pattern on Ravelry. The same designer has her own version of the striped felted slipper as well, called Sarah’s Striped Slippers. These are worked in super bulky yarn and have a contrasting foot and a striped body. These are knit flat and seamed and there are 7 size options available. Check that pattern out here if you’re looking for a more traditional slipper shape. They also look roomier so you can wear them with socks if you like.
