Knitting patterns have to assume a certain set of sizes are standard, otherwise they’d never get published because we’d spend forever thinking up different variations of body shapes we need to plan for.
Standards are great because they give us a place to start, but lots of people fall outside those standards and end up having to customize patterns to fit their bodies.
One common problem that might not be addressed in the knitting pattern you want to make is when your hips are wider than your chest measurement.
Berroco has some great tips on their blog about how to go about choosing what size of a pattern to knit and how to accommodate parts of your body that are different sizes.
Have you ever had to alter a pattern to fit your body? I’d love to hear how it went for you.

That’s a great reference to Berroco, Sarah. Thanks so much for bringing it to our attention. I actually have narrow shoulders, so this could help me out with that.
