Do you know what a niddy noddy is? It’s a funny name for a cool knitting tool that’s used to form a hank of yarn, and you can also use it to figure out the yardage in odd balls or handspun yarn.
They can be wooden or plastic (these days lots of people make them with 3D printers) and they are usually either one or two yards long so it’s easy to figure out yardage based on how many times the yarn goes around the device.
Check out this post on AB Crafty to learn all about how to use a niddy noddy and why you might want one in your knitting tools collection.
