I feel like we all could use some cozy knitting projects right now. The Waterbury Plaid Blanket Scarf from Two of Wands is really more like a shawl, and its a fun technique involving knitting stripes and then weaving long strands of yarn through the finished project to make a woven effect.
The weaving also makes the fringe that finishes the edges of the scarf.
This is a really simple and very cool technique that makes the project look a lot more fun (and complicated) without a lot of extra work.
You can grab the free pattern on her website or get a kit with yarn from Lion Brand.

Hello. I am having trouble with the gauge for this pattern. I have the correct yarn mentioned has I bought the kit. I cannot seem to make my 50 stitches on size 11 needles measure to 20 inches. I am getting about 16. The next size needle is 13. What should I do.

I would try it with the larger needles and see if you get gauge and like the way the fabric looks with them. You could also cast on a few more stitches to get to the desired width. This may require more yarn than you have; not sure how much extra is included.
