I think of winter as being the perfect time for knitting and wearing items with cables. I guess that extra bulk seems warming to me, and it’s great to reach for a cabled scarf, hat or sweater for a little extra comfort when the cold comes on.

If you’re intimidated by cables, you should know that they’re actually really easy to knit. You’re just putting some stitches on hold temporarily so you can work the stitches in a different order, which makes the twist. Basic cables really are super simple, and the pattern will always tell you exactly what to do, even with more complicated patterns.
