I recently came across a copy of this book that I’d like to giveaway. Not because I don’t want it, but because it’s an awesome book (yes, it really does have a knitted hobby horse in it, as well as cat toys…).

  9. Wow – thanks for the book gift! Not sure how to/ where to go to get it….But my favorite is an airy scarf with fringe. Another thing I do is make coasters and felt them, tie them up in a pretty ribbon and keep a couple sets around for last minute gifts.

  12. I taught myself to knit via books and Youtube just recently and am now obsessed (I already crochet)! My favorite quick gift to make is a cowl or circular scarf. They are versatile and can made wide or narrow, fine or chunky; and can be made with simple or more complex patterns. Judging from my family’s and friends’ reactions, they’re pretty popular gifts to receive too!

  15. My favorite quick knit is scrubbies. They are so fast and people are always asking for more. You can work them up while watching tv or waiting in line at the store or at the doctor’s office. I put some in a small basket with homemade soap and have an instant gift for personal care or add a small bottle of dishwashing liquid and have an instant gift.

  19. A last minute gift idea would be just a narrow knitted single colour long scarf. Its easy to knit and moves very fast. And because its simple with no designs and border(so its easier to roll).

  29. I can do a pair of socks pretty fast, but everyone seems to want a set (3) of my dish cloth/face towels in organic cotton. I do three shades of a color or three complimentary colors. My daughter says they are the BEST face towels. Also a favorite last minute knit up are matching set (4ea)of coasters and coffee cozies. Since I always have a traveling project in the works, gifts are easy and give me as much joy as the receiver.

  32. I am a procrastinator and not a fast knitter. But I find knitting fever flounce scarves knit up at 8 inches per hour and have been extremely well received. In fact the recipients like them so much they ask for more, or for the pattern. I don’t love making them, but it’s the price I pay for procrastination and totally mindless knitting.

Vintage Bed Socks Knitting Pattern – A Cozy Little Gift Project With Old-Fashioned Charm

There is something wonderfully nostalgic about a pair of handmade bed socks, isn’t there? They are practical, pretty, and just the sort of project that feels like it belongs beside a cup of tea, a good film, and a basket of wool that is pretending not to be overflowing.

This vintage Bed Socks knitting pattern is one of those sweet little patterns that still feels useful today. Originally from the Jaeger Hand-Knit Series No. 44, the design features a simple garter-stitch foot, a ribbed cuff, eyelet holes, a crochet chain tie, and little tassel-style pom-poms at the front. The original pattern even describes them as “a very acceptable present,” and honestly, I don’t think much has changed there.

These would make a lovely handmade gift for someone who is always cold, someone recovering or resting, or anyone who appreciates a bit of old-fashioned comfort. They would also be beautiful as a Mother’s Day gift, a winter birthday present, a Christmas stocking filler, or a “just because you deserve cozy feet” project.

The pattern itself is delightfully simple in construction. The socks are knitted flat, beginning at the lower edge, with the foot worked in garter stitch before moving into the ribbed upper section.
