I long had on my knitting bucket list to knit a pair of leggings (more on that and some pattern options here) and since I finished them I’ve wanted to knit some lounge pants, bearing in mind that will be an even bigger project because of the looser fit than is found with leggings.
It happens I’ve seen some cute knit pants patterns recently, as well as shorts knitting patterns (of course either type of pattern could go either length) so maybe they will inspire you to want to stitch some pants or shorts of your own.
Let’s start with shorts, since the first pattern that caught my eye was the East Coast Shorts from Briana Luppino. These light fingering weight shorts look super cozy, and are available in 11 sizes from 22 inches to 62 inches in waist circumference. (I saw she also recently made a pants version of these, which I assume will be released as a pattern at some point, too). You can get the pattern on Ravelry.
For an even more casual look, check out the Fermata shorts by Violist Knits on Etsy. The pattern calls for a worsted weight cotton yarn and comes in six sizes (note to the Americans, the measurements are in metric).
Or try the fun simple knit shorts pattern from Etsy seller By Lambert. These stripey shorts (of course you could make them a solid color, too) are high waisted and worked in a fingering weight yarn. The pattern includes four sizes but can be adjusted for a custom fit.
And now for some pants, if you want your knitting journey to go on a little longer. The Jet Set Pants from Park Williams are equally perfect to wear when you travel or to knit while on your next vacation. They’re worked in fingering weight yarn and have nine sizes, ranging from a waist of 25 to 51 inches. You can find the pattern on Ravelry.
Looking for something a little less simple? The Fancy Pants from Knitty Mam Shop on Etsy live up to the name, with a bit of lace at the cuff of each leg. The pants aren’t shown on a model but they look to be capri length. This pattern gives you the formulas to use to make the pants any size and any gauge you want.
Or for a totally casual pant you’ll want to wear everywhere, try the wide-legged Birchbark Longies pattern from the Resilient Knitter on Etsy. While this pattern only comes in one size for adults, I think you could adjust the design for a custom fit.
