It’s fun to knit hats for kids that have a bit of personality, and this time of year, while we’re thinking spring but it is sometimes still a little cold outside, it’s especially fun to have a hat that’s a little silly.
So I decided to knit my daughter a bunny ear hat, and you can find the full pattern over at CraftBits.
The hat is just a simple Stockinette hat, and because it’s worked in bulky yarn it takes very little time to stitch up.
Stitches are picked up from the top of the hat to work the white part of the ears, then the pink part is knit separately and stitched on.
You could totally add some embroidered embellishments to make a face if you wanted. I may still.
It’s a super simple and fast project, which is the best kind of thing for seasonal items that might not get worn very often. You can really do the knitting in an evening or two, and sewing the insides to the ears doesn’t take much time at all.
At first the girl refused to wear it, but now she loves it. Now, of course, it is also warm where we live, but I’ll bet we get another cold snap before the Easter bunny hops.
