I haven’t been to see Black Panther yet, but I know a lot of knitters who are crazy about the shawl that Lupita Nyong’o wears in the movie.
It’s a gorgeous wrap knit in shades of green and brown (you can see it here), and knitters everywhere have been wondering how to make one for themselves.
Costume designer Ruth E. Carter mentioned on Twitter that four different yarns were used for the wrap in the movie: two from Madeline Tosh, one Malabrigo and one Noro.
Which explains the gorgeous colors and luxury look.
There’s a group on Ravelry devoted to inspired designs (don’t call it the shawl from the movie, please) and I can’t wait to see what some people come up with.
Have you seen Black Panther yet? Are you inspired to knit a shawl? I’d love to hear your thoughts.

I’ve been writing about knitting online for a long time, and a lot of things have changed. But one good thing I think has changed over the years is that fewer people see knitting as a seasonal activity. Most people don’t seem to think anymore that there’s a time when it’s too hot to knit or too hot to wear knits.

I am having issues figuring out only one stitch – the twisted stitch with a the half turn. I think I’ve got it but it looks wrong. Any help would be so appreciated.
