I’m not sure what got it on their radar, but this morning the Today Show featured a story about yarn bombing. Reporter Janna Wolfe talked to Magda Sayeg, considered the mother of yarn bombing, and participated in the first known yarn bombing of a tourist in Times Square.
You can check out the video for yourself; it’s pretty cute. They covered the studio in crocheted afghans and colorful knit scarves, and Sayeg said that, despite its illegality, yarn bombing is “really pretty, people are enjoying it” and that it tells people that “it’s OK not to knit a baby blanket or a sweater” because you can knit a mailbox instead.
