USA 4th Of July Knitting Patterns

June 20, 2023 by Sarah White

Whether you want to stitch up something red, white and blue for the Fourth of July or you just want to whip something patriotic up any time of year, these USA knitting patterns are a great place to start.

And of course projects that are red, white and blue don’t have to just be for America. These colors are also found on the flags of Australia, France, Chile, Costa Rica, Norway, the UK and more! Use these patterns as a base to make your own flag design for whatever nation you wish, even if it doesn’t have a red, white and blue flag.

The Happy Fourth of July shawl pattern from KathCo Designs is one that wouldn’t necessarily read as an American flag even though it uses those colors. The stars are pony beads so you can just leave those out if your flag doesn’t have stars. You can find this pattern on Ravelry.

Kathy Perry’s Fourth of July necklace is another one that’s patriotic without being strictly American in design. It uses worsted weight yarn in blue along with red and white beads to make a fun necklace to wear at backyard barbecues all summer long. This pattern is also on Ravelry.

How about a patriotic hat knitting pattern? This baby hat from Ravelry was designed by Ingrid Schraufstatter and uses DK weight yarn. It’s mostly striped with a bit of colorwork evoking stars, and it’s made to fit newborns to 3 month olds. Or for a bigger person, there’s the Betsy Ross Beanie from Not Enough for Soup on Etsy, which uses the original flag as a design motif. It uses fingering weight yarn and the main part of the flag is worked in intarsia, while the stars can be worked as you go or stitched on later.

Or why not knit a patriotic teddy bear, like this one form Etsy seller Greene Crafts Store? You can easily change up the sweater if it’s for a different country other than the United States. The clothes are fully removable and the project is made with worsted weight yarn. Or you can dress up a 5-inch doll in patriotic finery with these fun patterns from Mary Maxim.

And finally you can just knit the flag itself, blanket style, with this pattern for a chunky knit flag throw from The Knitting Niche on Etsy. It’s worked in one piece and would be great to give to a veteran any time of year.
