Ten Knitted Tank Tops for Summer

May 29, 2014 by Sarah White

There are so many great tank top knitting patterns out there, but I love alliteration so here are 10 of them that you might want to get on your needles pronto so you can wear them when the weather really heats up!

Berroco’s Tank of Many Colors is a perfect place to start if you’ve never knit a tank top (or any kind of top) before. This one is just about as easy as it gets, but it’s still pretty and fun thanks to a shimmery yarn.

Tank Girl by Vickie Howell is another pretty easy project that has a little bit more detailing to make it more interesting to knit and to wear. There are some cool dropped stitches to add a bit of punk flair, but you could always leave those out if you’d rather.

Add some stripes to your crop top with this retro striped tank from Sara Knits Co. This one comes in eight sizes and you can do the rainbow colors as shown, an ombre look or even just random scrappy stripes or a single thicker stripe.

The That Girl tank by Nikol Lohr is another fun one and it’s completely customizable to your measurements. It also offers sleeves if you’d rather have them.

Ribbing makes a big impact on the Fitted Tank Top by Shiri Mor, while fisherman’s rib is the star of the tank top from Craft Foxes.

Want to add a little lace to your project? Try the Lillian Tank Top by Amanda Reed, the Sugar Tank by Claudia Olson, Betty Zimmermann’s Heart Lace Top or the wonderfully named Sarah Tank Top from Christine Buhagiar.

Or if you really want to wow people with your knitting prowess (though the yarn does a lot of the work here, for sure) try the Red Fuji Tank Top from Ram Wools. It’s a show-stopped for sure.

Have any favorite tank top patterns? I’d love to see them!

Knitting Pattern Review: Sabai Top by PaulaStrickt

Trending now — and for good reason!

Alright fellow knitters, if you’ve been scrolling through Instagram or Pinterest lately, you’ve probably spotted the Sabai Top popping up everywhere. And let me tell you — the hype is totally justified. This lightweight, drapey top by PaulaStrickt has quickly become a must-knit, and it’s easy to see why.

The Sabai Top has that magical mix of style and simplicity. With its elegant A-line shape, soft rolled neckline, and relaxed fit, it flatters every body and suits just about every wardrobe. It’s knit top-down in the round, which means no seams (yes please!), and it flows beautifully thanks to its clever shaping.

It’s ideal for warmer weather and perfect for layering. I’ve seen it styled casually over jeans or thrown over a sundress, and honestly? It looks stunning every single time. That easy, wearable style is what’s made this one take off in the knitting world right now.

PaulaStrickt’s instructions are beautifully laid out, with both English and German versions included. It’s written with clarity and care, and includes helpful photos throughout. I’d say it’s best for confident beginners and up — if you’re comfortable knitting in the round and shaping, you’ll be right at home.

The sizing is generous and inclusive, and it’s so adaptable with different fibres. Linen, cotton, bamboo blends — they all shine in this pattern. I’ve cast on with a blush cotton-linen from my stash, and it’s knitting up like a dream.

This is one of those patterns you just know you’ll make more than once. The fit, the drape, the ease… it’s everything I want in a handmade top. No wonder it’s trending — it’s the kind of timeless knit that never really goes out of style.
