Giveaway: Knee-sel for Holding Knitting Patterns

March 7, 2016 by Sarah White

knee-sel knitting chart holder

Rose is the winner!

I’ve been doing some spring cleaning in my office (even though it’s not quite spring yet, it certainly feels like it!) and I found this little gadget and thought someone might like it.

The Knee-sel from Nancy’s Knit Knacks is a little fabric easel, for lack of a better word, that is sturdy enough to hold your pattern in place while you’re knitting from a chart. It straps around your leg and also props up against your leg to hold the chart or pattern where you can see it. It also has a little pouch to hold a pen for marking what row you are on or taking notes (it could also hold a cable needle).

I never tried this so it is new in the bag. Mine is size small, which is says is for a 15-25 inch leg. It’s sold black and measures 8 inches wide, 6.5 inches tall and 5/16 inch thick. They retail for $29.99

for full information and more pictures of the Knee-sel in action.

If you’d like a chance to win this, leave a comment on this post before the end of the day Sunday, March 13. I’d love to know if you have any tricks for keeping up with where you are in a chart, or what you would use this gadget for.

Thanks for visiting, commenting and sharing, and good luck!

I would use it when knitting in public and a table isn’t available.
i keep my place on charts by using the highlighter tape so I can move it up to the next row after I finished a row.

This would be awesome when traveling. It’s hard to keep your pattern in easy reach when riding in a car, this would make it so much easier.

I would like this. Our animals like to lay on the pattern I’m using. This could be great.

My husband is a cancer patient so I spend HOURS sitting in waiting rooms during his treatments. This gadget would make it so much easier for me to follow a pattern as there are never enough tables next to chairs on which to layout my instructions. Love the idea of this – convenient, portable & useful – with this I could actually knit things that don’t require me to memorize patterns and then end up doing a lot more frogging than knitting! Think I’ve developed chemo brain by osmosis!

    March 7, 2016 at 11:20 am

I would use this for holding my cross stitch patterns, not knitting. How clever.

  17. Lesta says

I really need this as I must keep my patterns close as my eyesight gets worst as I get older

I mark each row when I have completed it. Use stitch markers between each pattern repeat/section. Lifelines are a must! Don’t remove a lifeline until you have done a few rows after putting in a second lifeline. Handy to use a metal tray at back and a magnet glued to a ruler on the front.

This is something that I could truly use. Love it.

What a nifty product! I’m a cross stitcher and this would be ideal while I travel. I use a highlighter to mark what I’ve completed and it’s difficult to balance everything on that tiny plane table!

This would be nice to have while traveling in the car on long trips. I would really like to have it. I would for use it at home so I don’t have to pick up the instructions from the table or knitting bag.

  36. Elaine R. says

    March 7, 2016 at 1:09 pm

It would be great to hold the pattern when I’m sitting on the sofa. As I use reading glasses any other easel is too far away to read easily.

  37. Kitty says

    March 7, 2016 at 1:17 pm

This would be great!! It would be super helpful with my current situation. I wish I had something like this when my baby was small and needed rocking. 🙂

I would love to win something like this as I do a lot of knitting (and crocheting) in the car. I use colored pencils to mark where I am in a pattern. Easy to erase when I am done or use a different color next time!

What a wonderful invention – wish I would have thought of it all those times I needed to closely follow a detailed pattern step. I would use this for knitting or crochet. Oh – this would be good for needlework too. I need one of these.

Why didn’t I think of this? Great idea. I mark the row on the pattern when it is done, and set my pattern on the arm of my chair, this would be so much easier!

    March 7, 2016 at 2:48 pm

what a nifty idea! would love this I’m sure. thanks for the chance!

  50. Peggy R says

    March 7, 2016 at 2:57 pm

This is such an ingenious invention, and one that I could really make use of – especially when knitting in the car!! I’m currently using a book holder, with post its’ to keep track of the row I’m on, and a note book to mark the rows I’ve completed. In the car, I have to keep the pattern flat on the seat, or on my lap. It gets hard to do in the Winter. Thank you for such a great giveaway!! This is the best one yet!!

Learn a Flower Bobble Technique to Knit a Fun Shawl

Generally I like knitting patterns where I feel like you can use whatever yarn you have (because my stash is big enough and I want to use it, thanks) and make a successful project. This is one of those times when a special yarn makes the process that much easier.

The Floral Bouquet Shawl from Xandy Peters uses a specific extended color pooling yarn from Feisty Fibers, which allows you to place the bobble flowers with increasing frequency as you knit the project.

It starts with a solid color yarn, then the two color yarn is added in, and you make a bobble whenever you encounter the color pops. This would be hard to replicate with other yarn that doesn’t have the extended color pooling built in.

The background of the shawl is ribbed, making the project reversible.

The shawl uses fingering/sock yarn and comes out to be an asymmetrical triangle that’s 54 inches/137 cm long and 36 inches/ 90 cm deep and 60 inches/150 cm across the top edge.

Xandy says the pattern is for intermediate to advanced knitters. Knowing how to work traditional bobbles would probably help, but there’s a great video tutorial for how to work the floral bobbles so you can practice on other yarn or even incorporate the bobbles into other projects.

The bobbles are five-petaled flowers but they also kind of look like starfish to me, which could be fun on a child’s cardigan or other pattern. They’d also be fun on the leg of a sock or around the brim of a hat for extra whimsy.

The pattern includes photo and video tutorials, and written and charted instructions. It also includes tips on what to look for if you choose to use different yarn for the project, and instructions on how to dye your own yarn to use in the project.

If you want to give it a try, you can find the pattern on Ravelry.
